Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Speaking of pandas, Tai Shan turned four yesterday. In panda years, that makes him a teenager (or so the story in the paper said).

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Happy birthday, Sox and Dillo.

Dilemma: the chair of my grad program pointed out that I need a new thesis advisor. She recommended Dr. H, a professor I had quite some time ago but said Dr. H is most likely not going to be able to do it because of time constraints. She offered to do it herself.

If Dr. K does it herself, it means she's going to expect me to communicate and be top notch and to GET THINGS DONE in a timely manner and there will be a lot of back and forth, with negotiating. But my thesis will be ready for defense, no question about it.

Dr. H will not require I work that hard but she also won't be able or willing to provide the same support. I dunno how much support I might need.

Dr. K already sits on the defense committees though, so that might be nice.

Hmmm... who to ask?

I would go with Dr. K. Firmess in an advisor is a good thing, even if the work is "harder" you have GUIDANCE.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Fluevog is having a big sale today, fyi!

I was just coming in to say that I got an email saying John Fluevog thinks I'm awesome.

I like those kinds of emails.

hip deep in pie

So far today at work, I have chatted with my co-workers about our various aches and pains, tried to trap and release a spider and then discussed lunch plans. I should look into some work.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I'm steadfastly ignoring the Fluevog sale. *sigh* So pretty.

I'd go with more guidance, Kat.

Our wings are not tired.

Happy Birthday, Sox!

It sounds like asking Dr. K. would provide support and success. Perhaps more stress in the short run, but payoff.

I should do some work.

Oh Kat, I so understand that dilemma. My lazy nature would draw me towards the easier advisor, but you know that the hard ass will benefit you more. Also, every time I've had a totally demanding perfectionist teacher, they've ended up being my favourite because they brought out the best in me, and got me to do something that I wouldn't have achieved on my own. Also, I hope I've learned a little bit about discipline and work ethic from them.
