Somewhere I read about how annoying many of the women are when they grunt as they hit the ball. Are the women grunting (or screeching) in a more annoying fashion than the men?

High-pitched noises are more painful to the ear than lower-pitched ones in general. I'm surprised Newt's screams didn't drive the Queen Alien to space herself before Ripley had a chance to do it.
It's higher in pitch and therefore, I think registers higher in decibels.
A lion's roar is reckoned to reach 110 decibels. Former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova, who says she grunted since the age of four and cannot help it, has been measured at 101.
Azarenka doesn't grunt, not even a feminine grunt. She squeals. I don't like grunting, but I can get past it. She sounds like an animal in pain.
I would have to say that I think that there are more women making a noise than men.
Owen has his new glasses. I think this geek has emerged from his chrysalis and is spreading his nerdy wings in preparation for flight.

I saw an interview with a famous tennis player recently (Seles? Crap, I can't remember) who was saying that part of the point of the grunting is that it disguises the sound of the ball hitting the racquet so that it's harder for the opponent to gauge how hard it's been hit.
Yay for geeky glasses!!
There was a young girl at the bookstore on Saturday who had on the most adorable purple glasses. Combine that with her terrific green hat and multi-colored shirt, she was a vision in bright colors!
The thunder here was so awesome I could feel it in the floor.
