PEE-uh-nee
Though I say it with more of an "oh" than an "uh" in the middle.

What brenda said. And I had no idea about the ants.
Also, cor-SET is WRONG.

The "uh" is very possibly my lazy pronunciation. Like "twenny" when saying "20."

"About tree fitty."
PEE-uh-nee
This. More 'uh' than 'oh' but then again, I live in the south, so that could have something to do with it. Frankly, I'm amazed it hasn't been shortened to one syllable.
"About tree fitty."
Ha! I'm not *that* bad.
But close.

I've barely even been to the south, and I barely say the 'uh' in between PEE and nee.
A friend of mine's very southern grandmother said it with such a soft NC accent so that it came out almost peh'nee Only a slight uh between the syllables. She had such a lovely voice and accent.
I've only ever heard PEE-uh-nee, but I have one friend who insists that it's pee-OH-nee.
I say the former but my grandmother and other older people from the rural south often use the latter.
That's a lovely peony. You should cherish it. The old fashioned ones are getting harder to find. Strictly speaking, peonies attract aphids because they have a sweetish liquid that oozes from their buds. The ants "herd" the aphids and eat the honeydew the aphids produce.
I'd like to have one of those out front. But getting anything that isn't already established to grow out there will be a challenge. It's fricking brick clay.
Fun lightening and thunder outside right now.
