Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I like how the consultants we hired work almost exclusively on Windows machines and networks, yet they brought MacBooks with them to help set things up (they run Windows as virtual machines on the MacBooks).

Mattress With 1 Million Accidentally Thrown Away By Israeli Woman

JERUSALEM — An Israeli woman mistakenly threw out a mattress she said had almost $1 million inside, setting off a frantic search through tons of garbage at a number of landfill sites on Wednesday.

The woman told The Associated Press that she bought her elderly mother a new mattress as a surprise present on Monday _ and threw out the old one.

The next day, she said, she remembered that she had hidden her life savings inside the old mattress. "I woke up in the morning screaming, when it hit me what happened," said the Tel Aviv woman, who asked not to be identified.

She went to look for the mattress, but it had already been hauled away by garbage collectors, she said. Searches at three different landfill sites turned up nothing.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

tommy, in an emergency such as this, gargling in the bathroom with some tap-hot water and couple packets of salt might be significantly soothing. (I follow up the salty gargle by swishing out my mouth with nice cold water.) Only takes a couple minutes!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

flea:

The woman said the money had been stashed in a mattress because she had had "traumatic experiences with banks" in the past. She would not elaborate.

I got hit with a phone scam last night. I got a call with a recorded message saying they were from Chase Fraud Operations and they wanted me to confirm that I can written a convince check on my Visa account. They told me to call back (800) 766-4908 with the confirmation number of 0900 by 2:00pm Eastern time tomorrow and to have my account number ready. It was a recording with a female voicemail voice the typical change in voice for variable information like the date and confirmation number.

I didn't catch it at first, but I have a Chase MasterCard, not a Visa, but the even confirmation number seemed fishy. Anyhow I figured I should just call the number on the back of my card rather than one I was given just in case and as a matter of course. It turns out Chase never contacted me, so it was a scam. I think it was a pretty good one though.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

How can someone forget where they put $1M? Baffling.

Gud, does the Cash for CLunkers run for at least a year from now, or does it end at the end of this year? Because if it keeps running, I'll go buy an old $500 clunker, keep it for a year, trade it in for an SUV, then trade the SUV in for a Honda Fit. /scheming

Never mind, Gud, I just went and looked it up for myself. The legislation hasn't passed yet, so I guess it won't run out real soon. And I already own a vehicle that qualifies! Yay.

I don't know for sure how long it will run, It sounds like it will difficult to scheme once it's all done. Really I think the about the only people who will benefit in any numbers will be current owners of drivable beater full size pickups.
