Good luck with speaking, Jesse.
My work nemesis and I have been getting along quite well lately, until this morning. I was asked to make a spreadsheet for some higher ups-- I used some of her information, but I came up with 90% of it independently, and the use of the spreadsheet is different (you can put in the number of students and it will tell you if it will break even). I sent the spreadsheet to the higher ups, included the fact that I used her salary spreadsheet, copied her in so she wouldn't be upset, and she now has told me I am taking credit for her work and that she would never do that and that she thinks so much less of me for doing this. I would blow it off, except she is BFF's with my boss, who totally does not understand spreadsheets and so can't tell for herself. She also saw me eating lunch yesterday with someone that they suspect of "being on the wrong team", and now I feel like people are suspicious of me because so many people left to work with the old, criminal boss.
Ugh, Sophia. I hate that kind of politics.
How did your computer survive the coffee? (I likely skipped past an update)
My IT person at work told me to let it dry for three days before turning it back on to give it the best chance-- I am pretty much resigned to it not working. The harddrive memory look fine, but the on/off switch got the most of the coffee.
Thank you for asking.
I also have so much work to do that I feel like my head is going to fly off, and that spreadheet seriously took 8 hours of time (we have 30 classes, each with individual expenses, instructor payment agreements, etc, and then I did a summary sheet that shows all the salaries and changes when you change the number of students on the individual sheets for each class).
I'm at home today.
The hold on my account for the $3000 has gone away. Yay Apple store!

Testimonial:
"Party planning can be stressful and that's exactly why I hired you. You did such a good job and I was able to just sit back, take pictures and watch everyone's excitement. Emma and all of the girls adored you and we were very impressed that you stayed in character the entire time. Thank you, and I will be bringing your cards with me to work and hand out to other parents."

"We just wanted to thank you for making our daughters birthday a very special day. The girls loving have a such an amazing and "real" princess at the party. They loved hearing you sing, teaching songs and etiquette, and dancing. It was so much fun that my daughter has yet to stop talking about it. She keeps asking when her birthday will be again so she can have a princess for her next party. We look forward to using you again."
Women Now Dominate Higher Education at Every Degree Level; The Female-Male Degree Gap Grows
It's college graduation season, and according to data available from the U.S. Department of Education, an estimated 3,092,800 degrees will be granted this academic year (2008-2009) for Associate's degrees (714,000), Bachelor's degrees (1,585,000), Master's degrees (647,000), Professional degrees for MD, DDS and JD (91,000) and Doctor's degrees for Ph.D and Ed.D (55,800).
Of the more than 3 million college degrees for the Class of 2009, women will earn close to 60% of those degrees (1,849,200), or almost 149 degrees for every 100 degrees earned by men.
...
For all levels of higher education, women have earned more college degrees than men in every year since the Class of 1982, and the degree gap has widened in every year since then, and is expected to widen in the future through the 2016-2017 year (see chart above).
I blame... I dunno... video games.

I don't know for sure. If I were to have a guess I would say that there are more opportunities in traditional male occupations for people without higher education. Also, I think there is less anti-academic achievement pressure for girls than for boys. I think there is a view that being good at academics is wussy.
This just in: I hate appraisals!
More specifically, I hate evaluating my performance on last year's Personal Development Goals. Ick ick ick.
