On a more fun note, I dug out the flower pot I'm going to match paint to and a beautiful carpet in Company C's catalogue that matches perfectly without being matchy-matchy. Hopefully it's still in stock.
I came across this site the other day - neat tool for color coordinating. [link] You upload an image and it gives you a grid of color ideas.
Again, it's the folding. I am doing one last load right now -- did about 5 loads this weekend.
And once again, Erin and I are as one. Folding is the Debbil's Work.
Having done laundry, put up dishes, and scrubbed my tub today, the first is definitely the one I'd be happiest doing without. (Floors have them all beat though.)
Women and Nerves - a 1934 article. Interesting (and infuriating) look at how the medical profession viewed women back then.
Scans of the article on top, actual text below it....
Again, owing to the relative preponderance in numbers of the female over the male sex, many women are compelled to remain unmarried. That means that the supreme function of their lives is not exercised, in flat opposition to nature’s intention. Lack of gratification of the sex instinct, with a failure to direct its energies into other creative channels, is very likely in unstable types to cause a nerve tension which ultimately ends in a complete nervous breakdown.
So unmarried women "very likely" will have a nervous breakdown? Huh. Oh wait, that's just for "unstable types"....
eta:
HYSTERIA as we have already noted is one of the major nerve troubles of women, although it is not exclusive to the female sex as was once imagined. There is definitely an hysterical type, the woman who is easily emotional, weeps and laughs on the least provocation, who has a desire to be theatrical and who has a morbid craving for sympathy. When such a woman is threatened with some social situation which is distasteful to her she very readily develops an hysterical attack. * This may take an endless variety of forms, paralysis, tremors, deafness, speechlessness, blindness, trances, or wandering fits.
What the fucking fuck?
I thought he was saying that it's lack of sex that causes nervous breakdowns, but then I saw this bit:
pregnancy and childbirth, the major responsibility of a woman’s sex life
Oh.
What I did today: [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] (it's stuff on walls. And yes, the giraffe batik is crooked. The fabric itself is crooked. I'll probably move it to somewhere with no straight lines.)
Today was another eco-destruction day ( or as a alternative we can call it garden reclamation) . And today I did what I must do at least once a year. I burned my back and shoulders. and I thought I was doing so well this year.
oh, cool, brenda. Thanks!
Here's the carpet I want: [link]
Timelies all!
Back from Balticon, which was fun. Despite getting a reasonable amount of sleep, I'm still tired.
Garbage is out, dishes are done-ish, five bags of clothes, shoes and bedding were donated to Goodwill (two of those were clothes from seven years ago, back when I weighed 120 --I've finally given up returning to that anytime soon).
