"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Yay, Burrell! That's great news.

I like a tangy rather than sweet coleslaw. I didn't even know that was a possibility until I was well into my twenties.

Emmett and I ate at SF's best barbecue the other day, Memphis Minnie's. Lordy, their Texas brisket is insanely good. They cook it for 16 hours. Emmett said their tri-tip sandwich was the best he ever had. Plus, I was able to get both homemade banana pudding (con nilla wafer) and an order of potlikker greens (collard greens in a mustard sauce) to go.

So now JZ has had collard greens. (A staple of my mother's upraising in 30s Georgia.)

In less happy news the El Cerrito Parkway Speakeasy theater is closed as of Wednesday. Looks like the whole enterprise is biting the dust. Sucks.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I can only tolerate cabbage in eggrolls or KFC's über-sweet slaw.

“Not dead yet!”

I made pasta with an alla vodka sauce. A jar sauce, but surprisingly good. Along with a roasted garlic loaf from the Publix bakery that has huge slivers of garlic all through it.

Good thing I picked up eclairs for dessert.

And oh, AUGH! Some chick on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives just made a Cuban sandwich with French bread and mozzarella instead of Swiss. There are just some things that shouldn't be messed with.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

For some reason I feel compelled to eat today, without being that hungry. Irritating.

My sister told me to go onto Facebook to look at some pictures of a new addition to our family. I don't remember who all the people on my friends list are. And I swear I was diligent in adding to it.

I remember why I drifted away.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

You would appreciate the fact that the place I got the medianoche from the other night advertises the fact that they get their bread daily from Florida. (The regular cubano bread comes from Jersey.)

Good for them! (I hope it was good, too!)

I will say, that lacking the good pan medianoche, I wouldn't object to using a challah or even the King's Hawaiian bread if I was making one at home. But a restaurant? I expect a restaurant to get the real thing.

Thinking long term, but what about painting the front room a lighter shade to match this: [link]

Because books.

I like that color a lot.

Great news, Burrell!

Mets are winning against the Red Sox (so far)! Which means all is right with my world.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

KITTEH

Sorry for the crapassed videos--they are the first ones I've done.

Very pretty, sarameg.
