A lame excuse, but it does point out the problem with the hysteria about steroids. A lot of players - especially bullpen pitchers - were taking steroids in the nineties because it helps repair muscle damage more quickly. That is, it does have a beneficial and defensible effect as well as as performance enhancing.
I don't think it's a bright, clear line.
"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was okay to give me. Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons.
"I want to apologize to Mr. McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, Mr. Torre, my teammates, the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I'm sorry about this whole situation."
Apparently it wasn't steroids. But it doesn't sound like he's denying it either. They don't have a test for HGH so I wonder what he took.

A totally valid defense IMHO, especially if you're depending on expert advice about health and healing and legality.
I'm surprised that more MLB players haven't been found blood doping.

Palin's popularity takes a nose dive
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin isn't the nation's most popular governor anymore. In fact, a new poll shows that her popularity has fallen sharply from where it was before she ran for vice president, most likely because of the hits she's been taking in her home state recently.
In this latest survey, conducted by Hays Research Group, the governor scored a 54 percent positive rating, compared to a 41.6 percent negative rating. (The margin of error was plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.) That's down from just a month ago, when 60 percent of respondents told the pollster they viewed the governor favorably. And it's way down from a year ago, when Palin had an 86 percent positive rating.
I think it's because if you want to be an evil politician, you need at least some brains to remain popular.
Turns out Tolkien was more accurate than originally thought--homo floresiensis (aka, the hobbit) had really big feet! I wonder if they were hairy, too.

With respect to Manny Ramirez, I have no pity. He's been on The List since his Cleveland days. I wasn't in the slightest bit sad to see him go.
