Shrift that sucks! I can't imagine it happening once, but twice!
Oh! I forgot a funny/like-people I had: so I went to the Safeway nearest the new house (I've got issues with Giant, which is the closest at both old and new.) Anyway, it's a very, um... celebrating place. They were raising money for people with disabilities in Baltimore and every time they got a donation, there was an announcement over the PA and applause. So I get up to the cashier and she's ringing me up and gets a look at me. She leans forward and quietly and urgently asks "You ok honey?" I look at her blankly. She gestures to my arms. I start laughing. I've got SPECTACULAR fading (rapidly, thank goodness) bruises from the move and pre-move klutz, one especially vivid on my forearm, which could easily seem a defensive one. (Got that from the ac yesterday.) I told her "You should see my legs! I'm just bought my first house and have been moving and falling over boxes." "oh, OK! Congratulations!"
I don't like the layout of this SW, and it is smaller than my old and didn't have sliced ham, but all the workers were really friendly and nice.
I'm so in love with my new hood, aren't I?
That's awesome.
It really is.
Have you all seen this Super cool art + history + supreme court. NEAT.
And, yes, sara, it's fantastic! May the in loveness last a long long long time.
Wow, Kat, that was great. The NYTimes site has some excellent art.
It's so weird. I'm really a private introvert. But when I escape the lines of my property, I want to know the community around me. So far Anna and Ben and Tommy and I politely ignore each other out on the back decks and patios but for a wave, but off the front steps, a few exchanged words leads to a conversation or not with both neighbors. Or an invite. Social boundaries when we're in each others' laps.
I want to walk around the blocks to introduce myself to all the folk who gave me their recs and addresses, to thank them. But without invading their space. I guess if I don't get around to it before I do an open house, I'll invite them then.
It took me a long while to build a community where I lived before, and I really loved having that community. So I learned something, and this time? I'm actively recruiting. And the great thing is, here already has a sense of that, if not the personal ties. This community wants to be one. I'm sure I'll find Miss Louises and Ellies and Taylors here too. Just faster, because I now know this is something I can do.
