They were talking about the flu this morning on the radio, and basically, they were talking people down from panic mode. If you're relatively healthy and wouldn't have a deathly reaction to the regular flu, you're fine with the swine flu. Oh, and you don't catch swine flu from eating/touching/doing whatever to pork. Hand sanitizer is always a good idea anyway, but if you keep your hands and face washed, you'll cut your exposure to all sorts of colds and flus down to a minimal amount.
To put things in perspective, swine flu is rumored to have killed 100 people in Mexico. Annually in the U.S., 36,000 people die of the regular flu, yet people don't flip out about that number.
Grrrr. Called my health insurer. I called last week to see if they were going to cover the general anesthesia for Owen's oral surgery this Friday. It was referred to the manager. WHO'S ON VACATION. She's supposed to be back tomorrow but I wasn't promised an answer right away. If I don't find out before Friday, I have to pay $3,200 on top of the $1,600 we've already paid. WTF? If someone goes on vacation, shouldn't they have people covering for these kinds of decision?
So we may be getting a dog. Ack.

I am hearing to much panic form this flu. The CDC is doing what it is supposed to do , preparing for the worse case senerio, but for everyone else -- just do what you should normally do. Wash you hands more. take more vitamin C ( immune boosting ) get enough sleep, etc. If you are more susceptible to getting serious cases of the flu -- take all illness just a bit more seriously.
If I understand it correctly -- 20 people in the US have had it and it has been much milder here.
It's a sad testament to how extremely tired I've been for the past week or so that I kind of wish I'd get the swine flu so that I could be off work and get some goddamn sleep.
3 days on the couch sounds good to me , but that is asthma talking.
I also have major grumps -- getting blood drawn at 930. no food. starving now.
There are four reported cases in NS stemming from a school trip to Mexico. Today they are reporting that there are likely more previously undetected cases spreading out from the friends and family of people at the school, and they expect it to spread to the rest of NS.
If I have to stay home for a week, I will gladly do it!
swine flu is the punch line for a million things today.
The freak out seems bizarre to me, as noted, lots of people die from the flu every year.
Also, anti-bacterial stuff kinda freaks me out.
My wife asked me how much vacation I have and it turns out it's 27 days. That's a lot of vacation.
