Emaryn is just a breeze when it comes to school. She just cruises along with no problems. Sometimes we take it a bit too for granted, just because there are no issues.
This is Abby. Although any jealousy we deal with around here is more on Nate's part because his sister gets better grades with seemingly little effort. (Uh, no, dude. She's just more of a self-starting kid where work is concerned.)
Barb, have you had your son tested for a learning disability? There may be something behind the processing issues.
We had a series of comprehensive tests run on him a couple of years ago-- the biggest issue seems to be a disconnect with how quickly his mind works versus how slowly he writes. Then last year we had him observed twice for ADHD but in both cases didn't exhibit quite enough markers to label him ADHD.
Oy -- I figure I should stay at work late, because I got here so late this morning, but I haven't gotten shit done all day, and I don't really plan to start now. If other people would just start leaving, I'd be OK! But no!
Oh, David, my coworker was just telling me how her son got whacked by a bat in Little League over the weekend -- split his helmet! Good thing he was wearing a helmet. She doesn't think he'll play catcher again... Apparently he's OK, though. Phew!
split his helmet!
Yikes! I got nailed while catching once when a guy swung his bat completely around and hit me in the back of the head. I didn't have a full helmet back then, just the face mask.
Got three quiche from King's, mini bagels and croissants, fresh fruit, champagne and orange juice. Gonna make a cranberry punch tomorrow and am slicing up a baguette and soaking it in french toast batter to serve with breakfast sausage and peach slices. Ooh, and found smoked salmon spread, but I don't know if I'll be sharing that.
Getting so many second opinions it's driving me bonkers.
"I really think you should use the dark green table cloths"
"No, I found enough of the garden cafe ones, they're prettier"
"But..."
"I'm gonna make my mother's french toast"
"I really don't think you should waste your time"
"I want to do it"
"But..."
"I don't think you need to use the tables in the dining room, everything will fit on the one on the sunporch"
"No it won't"
"Yes it will"
"You don't need tables"
"Where are they going to eat?"
"Buffets don't have tables"
"Yes, they do"
"No"
"Yes"
"You have too much food, they're mostly women, and women don't eat a lot. You've already more food for 30 than we had for the bridge party of 60"
"It's a brunch, people are coming for the food, at the bridge party they came to play bridge"
"But... women don't eat a lot"
"There's going to be men, too."
"..."
The best thing about too much food -- you get the leftovers.
right?!
This is the same woman who wanted me to have coffee and cake with my volunteers every week, which means everyday to catch all of them. I want to have one BIG hurrah and be done with it until the Christmas party. (This is the same non-profit that canceled the last one and we had to do a secret pot luck appreciation dinner out of our own pockets)
I love the Weavers version of "House of the Rising Sun," sung by Ronnie Gilbert. A great bluesy torch song.
When the Great Peace March was in NJ, The Weavers, featuring Ronnie Gilbert, did a fundraiser for us. I asked my lovely hosts, June (as in Junius) and Bea if they wanted to go with my work partner and I. June asked, "Do they draw a rough crowd?"
You'd have to know Ronnie Gilbert to get how funny that is.
Still, we had a wonderful time and the concert was just amazing.
June asked, "Do they draw a rough crowd?"
The Weavers?
Ronnie Gilbert??
"Rough crowd"???
Hee!!
I've been a Weavers fan since college, since I read an article on their blacklisting in my history seminar class on Hoover's FBI, and checked out some of their albums from the library. My dad raised me on Kingston Trio and Peter, Paul, and Mary, but he wasn't well-versed with the Weavers, so I've been introducing him to them in the past few years.
