(Brunch, in my head, is also not a going-out thing. It's a host-in-house thing.)
Yeah, it's definitely a going-out thing for me. Though I've certainly had the in-house madhouse you described and enjoyed it.
When's the last time you hosted a brunch, Ple? That's not an pointed question, just wondering if it happens regularly since you've become a parent.
This is the penalty for sleeping all the way through last night, isn't it?
Juliebird, is the brunch for friends or at work?
At work. Now I'm all nervous (and hungry!)
The brunch I hosted on Easter had quiche (some with sausage, some veg), ham, asparagus and avocado salad, cinnamon rolls, mimosas, coffee, and Easter candy. Also, some people brought various nummy bread items and cheese and crackers.
It seemed to work out pretty well.
The last time I hosted a brunch was New Year's Day 2009. I served baked eggs in little ham cups. They were adorable. (And there was a big basket of mini-bagels w/ cream cheese, lox, onions, capers, tomato for the anti-egg. And lots and lots of coffee and mimosas.)
Ugh. Couldn't sleep. Feel oogey. Called in sick, now feel crappy about that, too. Which is ridic.
I was wishing to call in sleepy and/or annoyed by the weather, but now I am glad I didn't. The boss is out and so it will be a quiet day where I should be able to crank through some work while also getting through the internets.
I was tempted to call in "Sick, unless there's a problem with the server upgrade we did for our client on Saturday, in which case I'll come in," but that was just too complicated.
I forgot to turn on my alarm clock, so slept an extra 1.5 hours. Oops. I did consider just calling out, but sucked it up.
My DH called in to say he was going to work from home today, and I was jealous of his ability to do so. But the big boss is out, so I need to be here. I'm hoping to get the annual reviews done -- I hate these since the forms require me to answer questions that don't quite work for what we do (or probably what anyone on campus does).
