The last sentence of this report from HuffPost cracked me up: 'Million Tea Bag' Protest In DC Is Blocked
The Tea Parties here in Washington DC are off to a roaring start, right? Ha, ha: No. Right now, the Tea Parties are contending with a number of terrible struggles, which this report from Fox News documents.
In the first place, the big event of the day was to be the dumping of one million teabags. The Washington Post notes that this was originally supposed to happen at the Potomac River but was shifted to Lafayette Park because of issues of legality. And seriously, why anyone thought it would be legal to further pollute to Potomac is beyond me.
But! As it turns out, the alternate plan - 1. Take a million teabags to Lafayette Park, 2. Dump them on a tarp, 3. Yell at them, 4. Clean up the teabags - also isn't happening, because of permit issues.
According to reports, the truck filled with teabags pulled up to Lafayette Park, but didn't have a permit, and so they were loaded back on to the truck and driven off to an undisclosed location.
Also, the plan to have a second rally in front of the Treasury Department was scotched after the Secret Service said, "Uhm, no."
So, this epochal day is off to an amazing start. And somewhere out there, a truck full of teabags rolls on, destination unknown, into an uncertain future.
Teabagging is never as easy as it sounds.
The laid-off style thing isn't all that it's cracked up to be. This sucks.
Just saw Bobby Flay make burgers with potato chips as the last layer, and this wonderful looking chipotle/mayo dip for sweet potato fries. Mmmnummy,
Cute/Ridiculous Animal Thing Of The Day: Kitten On A Turntable (VIDEO)
This video starts out kind of slow, but trust me it gets awesome. This kitten can't quite figure out whether it likes the turntable or hates it, but it definitely likes chasing its tail without running. The little one is mesmerized by the spinning motion, but is kinda clumsy at the same time. That combination makes for a great distraction from the fact that you just gave the government all your money.
Someone who went to the DC teabagging protest reported this at Kos:
I just went to the Lafayette Square "Tea Party." It was a joke. There were around 500 people there. Very little energy. Many of the signs didn't even make sense. One child was holding a sign, "Obama took away my trip to Disney World." It seems that many parents removed their kids from school to attend. The PA wasn't even loud enough to be heard from 40 yards away. Very poorly organized.
Honestly, the whole teabag protest, is just so, I don't know, transparently artificial.
Protesting taxes, sure, protesting anything is fine and protesting what the government is doing is a fine tradition. That's all good.
But taxes. So far hasn't Obama just pushed legislation that cuts taxes? Yeah, he's planning to let the Bush tax cuts on higher incomes lapse in 2010 I believe, but it seems odd to protest that right now.
Spending. Where were the protests during the Bush administration when government was expanding like crazy and deficits just kept growing? Not to mention is this really the time to cut spending?
This isn't a protest of any of that, it's a protest of losing the election like one big demonstration of sour grapes. Which garners a big 'whatever' from me.
Besides if you think taxes are too high tell me how you're going to cut spending. No bullshit about eliminating wasteful pork allowed, that's not going to make a dent in spending. After Defense, Social Security, Healthcare, and Interest there just ain't much left.
Sorry about the suckage ita, I hope things turn around.
Much job-ma PMM.
Honestly, the whole teabag protest, is just so, I don't know, transparently artificial.
Totally. And not even as amusing as a kitten on a turntable.
I was thinking about stopping by Lafayette Square -- it's only about three blocks out of my way on the route from my apartment to my office -- but it's raining, so I didn't.
The Republicans have had the better part of 20 years to starve the beast and have only proven that they're the party of borrow and spend. The tea party analogy doesn't even make sense. The colonists weren't protesting taxes; they were protesting taxing with out representation.
