Happy Birthday, Lillian! My goodness, look at that glorious hair--
And I'm certainly willing to accept that there was a [really freakin' big mistake] somewhere in Amazon, but what really bugs me is the email sent to the author stating their practice of screening for adult material.
I mean, yes, the PR bunnies definitely need to work overtime on this Easter Monday.
Interesting perspective from Ron Hogan, senior editor at GalleyCat. He was amazon's gay and lesbian studies editor in the late 90s.

Happy birthday, Lilybean!
Happy Birthday, Lillian!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LILIAN!!
I absolutely buy that AmazonFail was a glitch, or at least unintended consequences. (As I pointed out in BHP's LJ, this sort of thing happens where I work all the time. Not in terms of LBGT content specifically, but in terms of individual developers' pet projects launching live on the website without any testing beyond "does my shiny new toy work the way I pictured it?" and not, say, "does my shiny new toy BREAK BUSINESS CRITICAL FUNCTIONALITY for oh, the entire US sales team.")
Happy Birthday, Lillibean!
She's not only gorgeous, Plei, she is preternaturally self-possessed.
Whether the Amazon thing was a mistake or corporate assiness, I just want to take the opportunity to say Support your local independent bookseller! And if you don't have a local one in these troubled times, support independent booksellers elsewhere on the internet!
