ION, sometimes I do love technology. The coworker I was waiting on earlier just texted me, because she knows I try not to check email outside of working hours, so I was able to tell her we couldn't do anything about it tomorrow anyway. We can both relax for the weekend! (I mean, theoretically I could have dealt with it tonight, but that really was never going to happen.)
In fun work news that doesn't affect me: we've recently gone onto access card lockdown. Apparently, some recent uh-hireds and fired by people we contract with got ugly. On top of that, apparently our BIG bosses decided that no one was to access systems from a non-company machine. Which means: all long distance contractors (on the order of 10 or so) need to be provided with equipment. Which they don't have, they are using their own. All telecommuters without laptops? Need to be provided with equipment they can take home. Spendy spendy. And THEN, since we've been on lockdown, a handful of laptops have gone walkabout. Very bad. So we're being told to lock our doors and
not take laptops home even though all thefts have occurred in the workplace.
See a problem with all these policies?
I like your rant, Allyson.
and yes, work is being unthinking in the desire to protect it self ( I think laptops for the contractors make sense from the ability to audit but the rest of it sounds stupid)
I didn't like any of my names
The employer supplied equipt for contractors makes sense, but to do it by fiat suddenly without providing the funds in the budget? Most of these folks are developers, and a base system that matches what they have presses over $2K starting (hardware, software, peripherials.) They pay for their internet access. Gotta love gov't work.
My favorite - it must happen this way with magic, because there is no money
No kidding, beth.
Lokis is forsaking me, choosing to sleep on the rattan box on the shelves in the dining room. But MK is now between me and the laptop.
