Re: my overheard at work - it was a debate about what was on the kitchen floor at one of our properties. Apparantly the thoughtwas it might have been wet coffee grounds.

For my sister-in-law:
Does anyone have a good carrot cake recipe that is more sweet than spicy?

Ok, tangential question:

I am going to do my taxes this year (this week, I mean, duh), and I am thinking about having them done, basically because I had a lot of medical bills this year. HOWEVER, I don't really know if that's a reason -- are medical bills, or short-term medical disability, anything that would affect taxes?

I believe the short term disability benefits are not taxable income.

I believe you can start deducting medical expenses when they are more than 7.5% of your AGI.

I would think that a program like Turbo Tax would work fine with those kinds of adjustments, and it's a lot cheaper than paying someone to do the taxes.

Here, have a grain of salt to go with that.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

You may deduct only the amount by which your total medical care expenses for the year exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. You do this calculation on Form 1040 Schedule A in computing the amount deductible.
