I have been gifteed! Or... something! I got a watch. But no, not just a watch, for this is more of a swiss army knife compactly enclosed in a watch, adorned with a compass, dangling from a carabiner. So I can check the time and direction, remove splinters, open bottles, and slice things, all without getting an allergic reaction on my wrist and, therefore, losing the watch. I love it. It's like geek-butch-chic with a side of apocalypse readiness. Thank you, d! Plus, it comes with a plastic case which has an attachment so you can hang that from your belt, too -- unlikely, as it's probably 3" x 6" x 1". But if I were the hard-smoking fisherman they seem to think I must be to have this watch, maybe I'd have that much space on my belt. Maybe I'll let them know about the vast geek-butch-postapocalypse market they're missing!

I know I shouldn't be sad about it, 'cause I know it's karma that I've earned, in a number of contexts, and I should just suck it up. (But it does make me laugh a bit at how much of a slacker I felt back in December, when I mailed my gift and thought '...that'll not get there in time for Christmas.')

Fear not, Fay. I finally gave my gift to mfnlaw last freaking week. It could still happen. I hold out hope. And you might even get it at the F2F! (which happened to me before when my gift from Connie went awry and I got a lovely scarf as a makeup)

You know, I was thinking about my overdue Santee and I was wondering if it would be permissible into looking into trading MY GIFTEE with someone else's GIFTEE, because I'm just not coming up with enough Cool Stuff to justify the long wait. If I traded off with another gift giver, I wouldn't have the load of guilt that's paralyzing me -- instead I could get all excited because I'm sort of swooping in to the rescue and go on a buying/making things spree that would result in someone, somewhere, getting cool prezzies.

(Note that this is NOT because of any enmity I have towards my giftee. It's just my guilt at not being good enough to come up with great prezzies for their particular persona.)

Would any other belated gift-giver be interested? Would any belated giftee mind?
