4′33″ Ringtones, Remixes, Mashups & More!
Semi-obscure music fans rejoice: iTunes is currently featuring “Four Minutes, Thirty Three Seconds” by John Cage as their Discovery Download of the week! For those that don’t know, 4′33″ is a composition in which Cage instructs the musician not to play anything at all for four minutes and thirty three seconds. It’s the sort of piece that was written to insite conversation in high school intro to music classes and to be a long running joke for music majors for generations to come. I’ve got to admit it’s really cool to see iTunes feature it so prominently in their store. Maybe it will encourage a few people to check out some of Cage’s other pieces (like his scores for prepared piano).
You can download it for free from iTunes.

I got their song "Sugar" as a bonus for some reason when I bought my Dell fauxPod. I rather like it.
That is a decent list (The Bats!) and I'm glad to see they didn't resort to a bastardized definition of "indie."
When Hearing "Hallelujah" is No Time to Rejoice [link]
Ha! Jon, that's hilarious timing, as I spent lunch ranting about said topic before transitioning to the larger topic of Cohen Covers: Why So Many Fail.
Anyone have a link handy to the original article from a year or to back on the subject of That Song?
When Hearing "Hallelujah" is No Time to Rejoice
My one argument with that article is that "Walking on Sunshine" was the PERFECT choice for the scene it was used in AMERICAN PSYCHO. Doesn't contradict the writer's opinion of the song (oh, Kimberley Rew what hath you wroth, you fucking wanker?), but still a perfect use of the song.
While looking for more background on McFadden & Dor (which has several cool tracks on the Lux & Ivy sets) I ran across the Re/Search Incredibly Strange Music on Rhapsody, which I could buy -- but do Rhapsody tracks have DRM or problems playing in iTunes?
God, I can't stand Corgan. Such a self-important ass. Tila Tequila sounds about right...
