Buffista Music 4: Needs More Cowbell!
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
I don't get the fish jokes.
No Haunnakah show for YLT this year, but they will have three shows at The Bell House this December.
Jon, you’ve sold me on Eux Autres. Which album do I start with?
I don't know if this should go here or Movies, but damn, I can't find a soundtrack for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and I'd been hoping to get my hands on a modern noir detective score. It's not like John Ottman doesn't have other music out there.
So, that said, any good noir music beyond Bohren and Der Club of Gore?
Jon, you’ve sold me on Eux Autres. Which album do I start with?
Hmmm... "Hell Is Eux Autres" is their first. Probably their most raw. "Broken Bow", their third album, has its raw moments, but also has some great pop songwriting with tunes like "You're Alight".
It's all on Bandcamp, so you can try before you buy! [link]
My head is mashing up Children of the Revolution with Don't Look Back in Anger.
Neatorama sez:
Vancouver musician Michelle Kwan plays the ghuzeng, or Chinese zither. She spent years playing classical music, but is now getting noticed for using the instrument for pop music. At the YouTube page, she is taking requests! -via Daily Picks and Flicks
Eta: The song is "Sweet Child o' Mine."
It's pretty amazing.
The other day, I heard an acoustic version of Men at Work's "Overkill." Just Colin Hay (I assume it was him -- the vocal sounded the same as the hit version) and a guitar. It blew me away. Lost some of the energy, but really captured that feeling you have when it's 3:00 in the morning and you can't sleep and your mind dwells on everything bad, humiliating, or anxiety-producing that ever happened or will happen.
I love that song - ever since high school. Probably their best song. I can't listen to it before sundown.
