808 and Heartbreak

It took a few listens, but I'm really loving this record right now. It's such a personal, sad record - I just want to hug his neck (as my mother likes to say). He lost his mom and broke up with his long-time girlfriend/fiancee last year and it certainly shows in this collection of songs. Don't get me wrong, it's probably my least favorite Kanye record, but I love that he did something different and I think it works well. Like Pitchfork said, after all the great music Kanye's given us, he's earned the right to do a record for himself. I don't often agree with Pitchfork, but I liked this.

Queensryche for Operation: Mindcrime

I'll be over here, twitching, remembering 1990.

Is that a twitch for 1990 in general, or about O:M? Because I luuuurves O:M.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

A twitch for O:M, aka, the soundtrack to lord knows how many VERY LONG DRIVES to various places back when I was not the driver and therefore had to shut my cakehole.

I swear, every con-going alternadude I knew with a license didn't own any other music. (And remember, my previous-to-Goth musical history was all punk and new wave, so while I might appreciate it now, I sure as hell didn't then.)

XTC's Wasp Star

God, I *love* that album. That's one of a handful of albums where I love all the songs on it (instead of skipping past some on the CD/iPod).

Aww, I'd love to read his take on that record. I can put in a word with Mr. Barker to take his time over that proposal.

DW has been wanting to pitch a Throwing Muses record for a few years now. I wish she'd do it! She would be great! TM has been her favorite band since 1986 (she was 16).
