Because books.

I love "How Will I Know," but I think "Greatest Love" is more representative of Whitney overall, I guess.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I think "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

I love "1999" but I think I'd go with "Little Red Corvette".

You tempt me! If it were for myself, certainly. And sexay Prince is worth representing. ...No, I'll stick with 1999. It reached no 2 on the charts, while Little Red Corvette just made it to no 8. The people have spoken!

I'll go with "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" for Whitney. "The Greatest Love of All" would also work well, and they were both big songs, but let's put more bop in the pop.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Maybe a Madonna ballad, then? "Crazy for You"?

No, the Madonna song has to be danceable and should court controversy. I'll pass over "Like a Virgin" and "Like a Prayer" to pick "Papa Don't Preach."

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

So I need a song to complete a playlist version of an old compilation tape I made about 20 years ago. It's Michelle Shocked's cover of the Beatles' "Lovely Rita". This was originally released on NME's Sgt Pepper Knew My Father LP in '88. This album is long out of print, and it seems was never released on CD.

The song was also on the extended reissued version of Michelle Shocked's Short Sharp Shocked. This album (and CD) are also out of print, with new copies going for $109 on Amazon and used copies staring at $26.99.

So anyone have either of these albums and can rip the song for me? Pretty please?

Michelle's version is one of my favorite covers ever, and probably my favorite Beatles cover.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I wonder if Jon has it.

You can get it on vinyl.

The few links I found on music blogs had all been taken down.

Ooh, there was a promo CD of the Knew My Father album. One's available for $40.

I think I've only heard the entire album a few times. For some reason I was thinking Tom Waits was on it. Perhaps I'm thinking of a Disney tribute album that Tom did a song for?

I don't remember what any of the other tracks sound like.

Anyway, I'd prefer CD, but I'm planning on buying a USB turntable one of these days....
