"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Just in case Shir has not experience the Jingle Cats: [link]

I haven't, till now. I also don't know 97% of the Christmas songs you're talking about.

My Jewish observation of watching (almost half) of Jingle Cats:

1. People have way too much spare time on their hands. They should give it all to me.
2. I felt horrified. Then amused. Then disturbed, and had to close that tab.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

2. I felt horrified. Then amused. Then disturbed, and had to close that tab.

Heh. I mean, sorry.

At least now you've seen the worst of American culture....

Ann, that's a ferret.

But nothing really tops an 8 y.o. singing about Santa Claus coming.

Especially when that 8 y.o. is Michael Jackson.

I was given the Jingle Cats CD. It falls into the "one song is cute, an entire album is overkill" category. Though the last track -- a spoken-word story about a homeless cat's Christmas -- brings me to tears just thinking about it.

“Not dead yet!”

How about versions of "Baby it's Cold Outside"?

Depending on my mood I veer between Jane Monheit & Steve Tyrell, Leon Redbone & Zooey Deschanel, or Brian Setzer Orchestra.

It's amazing how many BAD versions there are of that song.

Not as many as "Little Drummer Boy" but still.

I also like Judy Garland's version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Meet Me in St. Louis is one of my holiday staple films.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

How about versions of "Baby it's Cold Outside"?

Ray Charles and Betty Carter!

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

How about versions of "Baby it's Cold Outside"?

Dean Martin, dude. He wins.

Though the Bette Midler and James Caan version is pretty awesome.

“Not dead yet!”

Ha! Love Ray and Betty.

I also like Dino's version with the chorus of women. Sounds like he trying to seduce the lot of them.

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

How about versions of "Baby it's Cold Outside"?

I remember Buster Poindexter and (I think) Sigourney Weaver performing it on SNL once, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well they sang together.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I like the Ann Margret/Brian Setzer version. I'm also a big fan of the BSO's cover of "The Nutcracker Suite," the Nelson Riddle arranged version, which is on the same album.

I just saw this over at Crooks and Liars--a YouTube of "Come Together" sung by Cassandra Wilson and Diane Reeves. Really great!!

I really love Shorty Rogers jazz arrangement of the Nutcracker. It's sooooo fuckin' cool. I should post a few of those tracks. It's straight up West Coast Jazz so it sounds very compatible next to Vince Guaraldi.
