There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Barb, I love Jane Monheit!

Mine:

Goodnight Irene -- Dr. John
Hold Back The Rain -- Duran Duran
I'm an Errand Girl for Rhythm -- Diana Krall
Kin Folk -- Dr. John
Kotton Krown -- Elf Power

(Dr. John twice in 5 songs? I think iTunes doesn't shuffle very well.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

(Dr. John twice in 5 songs? I think iTunes doesn't shuffle very well.)

Apparently you only have like twelves songs and one of those is from a Dr. John compilation.

I suspected as much.

When I hit shuffle on iTunes, it clumps a lot of artists together. I have no idea why. Are there shuffle settings I can, you know, set?

My iPod does much better:

Boliva -- The Blue Wisp Big Band
Part of the Process -- Morcheeba
You Do Something to Me -- Benny Goodman
Once is Enough -- Lyle Lovett
Lucky Ball & Chain -- TMBG

hip deep in pie

Tell me about the Heavy Blinkers, Sue.

They are a now-defunct (I think) local band that lean toward pretty pop, a la Beach Boys, Burt Bacharach. Their main songwriter is Jason MacIssac, who also does lots of work with a local theatre troupe I know.

ETA: Wikipedia seems to indicate that they are, in fact, still funct.

I think iTunes has great taste.

Mine has just shuffled to Stevie Wonder. Who always makes me happy. ("If Your Love Cannot Be Moved" FYI)

Naw, mine does that too sometimes. C'mon randomizer! Just pick a chunk of Pi and spin it from there you lazy algorithm.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I dunno - the new iTunes interface confuses me.

I ended up using the iTunes DJ to make my random list.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

There was a Wire cover band by that name. Wire hired them to open their concerts and play older Wire songs.

They were hilarious. I saw them at the Paradise. They did all of Pink Flag in sequence with no between song banter. Except that halfway though, one of them approached the mike and announced "Side two." They encored with "Dot Dash" which was, appropriately, the single Wire released between Pink Flag and Chairs Missing.

Anyhoo, my (oddly heavily old-school-punky) first five:

Circulatory System -- Eight
Holly Golightly -- Card Table
Ramones -- Teenage Lobotomy
Buzzcocks -- Love Battery
Razar -- Stamp Out Disco

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

I'm going another round - this time, with the music on my computer (the first time was from my MP3 player):

The Blizzard Of 78 Featuring Mikey Dread - Silicone On Sapphire (The Sandinista Project)
Herman's Hermits - There's a Kind of Hush
The Gutter Twins - What Jail is Like (cover, live)
James - Alaskan Pipeline (again, one of my favorite songs ever)
Ex Lion Tamer (again!) - In Hope of an Evil Star

Could have been more eclectic.

“Not dead yet!”

Going for another round:

Time to be- waltz- The Seatbelts (Cowboy BeBop soundtrack)
Wouldn't it Be Nice- The Beach Boys
Hooray For Love- Ella Fitzgerald
Serana- The Gipsy Kings
The Deal (No Deal)- Chess in Concert

Huh. Interesting.
