His hangover is very different from Sam's though. He just startles awake and reprimands Sam (eta: Sam plays just as startled when he wakes up with the spoon in his mouth). I don't remember what episode it was, but didn't we see Sam puking? He doesn't seem to be impaired or in any pain at all. As hangovers go, it's very much a non-event.

If that's all he gets, then it still flies in the face of the I'm-so-fscked-up-still I see in fic. For some reason, I just don't get that vibe off him.

If there's just one part worth saving--metaphor for Dean in that scene and at that point. But it became clearer through the seasons that the car was rich in metaphor, and was physically important in its own right, as wel.
