Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I love the portmanteau Sassy. Mostly because I can't take the pairing seriously, even as I call out every Sassy moment onscreen. I think it's wrong.

Then again, not as wrong as some reincarnated John/Castiel I read. That was just...not with your son's angel. Dude, have boundaries.

eta: I had a dream in which I read a fic summary wherein Sam pledged a frat in order to try and establish replacement brotherhood in his life, and it failed miserably. Now I'm interested in seeing the fic for real.

Because books.

I always found John/Jo a little squicky. Mostly because I think John/Ellen is a sure bet, but also because, hello, Jo would have been a BABY. And then daddy issues ahoy and ... No.

I think all of the John/Jo I've read has been AU enough that they played with her age a bit. How old is she supposed to be?

Well, she had been to college, but hadn't liked it, so I'm going to say maybe twenty? But iirc, Ellen said they hadn't seen John in quite a while when she first meets the boys, which would have made Jo a teenager.

The "Sam-Hain" episode is on TNT (oh, people, a little research, you know?), and it's the third time off the top of my head I can remember Dean being impressed by a bong or mentioning getting high. Which still strikes me as funny, because Dean's image is very much the straightforward beer-drinking type.

What were the other occasions?

It's weird. I can let fanfic fill in a lot of stuff, but appreciably!altered!Dean isn't one of them. I think it's because although we've seen him drink so heavily we haven't seen him drunk or hungover (unlike Sam). So fics where he's actually showing some side effects of alcohol other than calming himself down or getting to sleep? Throws me right out of the story.

However, gay shenanigans for all is quite okay.

Season 2, Round 2, Bracket #1/2:

John:You know, when you were a kid, I'd come home from a hunt, and after what I'd seen, I'd be, I'd be wrecked. And you, you'd come up to me and you, you'd put your hand on my shoulder and you'd look me in the eye and you'd... You'd say "It's okay, Dad" Dean, I'm sorry.
Dean:What?
John: You shouldn't have had to say that to me, I should have been saying that to you. You know, I put, I put too much on your shoulders, I made you grow up too fast. You took care of Sammy, you took care of me. You did that, and you didn't complain, not once. I just want you to know that I am so proud of you.17:0

vs

Dean: Planes crash!
Sam: And apparently clowns kill! 11:6

Dean: Did you bring quarters?
Sam: Dude, I'm not enabling your sick habit. You're like one of those lab rats that pushes the pleasure button instead of the food button until it dies.
Dean: What are you talking about? I eat. 15:2

vs

Dean: I full-on Swayze'd that mother! 11:6

Dean: Sam, you and dad, you’re the most important people in my life. And now... I never should have come back Sam, it wasn't natural, and now look whats come of it. I was dead and I should've stayed dead. You wanted to know I was feeling, well thats it. So tell me, what could you possibly say to make that alright? 15:1

vs

Sam: Dean, you're my brother, alright? So whatever you're carrying, let me help a little bit. 13:3

Dean: My name is Dean Winchester. I'm an Aquarius, I enjoy sunsets, long walks on the beach and frisky women. And I did not kill anyone. But I know who did. Or rather "what" did. Of course, it can't be for sure, because our investigation was interrupted. But our work in theory, is that were looking for some kind of Vengeful Spirit. 13:3

vs

Dean: Of course, the most troubling question is why do these people assume we're gay? 12:4

Season 2, Round 2, Bracket #2/2:

Dean: When you were little, couldn't have been more than five, you just started asking questions. How come we didn't have a mom? Why did we always have to move around? Where's Dad? I remember I begged you: "Quit asking, Sammy. You don't want to know." I just wanted you to be a kid, just for a little while longer. Always tried to protect you. Keep you safe. Dad didn't even have to tell me. It was just always my responsibility, you know? It's like I had one job. I had one job, and I screwed it up. I blew it, and for that, I'm sorry. I guess that’s what I do. I let down the people I love. You know, I let Dad down, and now I guess I’m just supposed to let you down, too. How can I? How am I supposed to live with that? What am I supposed to do? Sammy? What am I supposed to do? 17:0

vs

Dean: What's dead should stay dead. 15:2

Henrickson: You think you’re funny
Dean: I think I’m adorable. 14:3

vs

Sam: If there's just one part worth saving...
Bobby: Yeah. All right. 9:8

YED: I knew I kept you alive for some reason. Until now, anyway. I couldn't have done it without your pathetic, self-loathing, self-destructive desire to sacrifice yourself for your family. 12:5

vs

Dean: Bitch.
Sam: What are you calling me a bitch for?
Dean: You're supposed to say jerk.
Sam: What? 12:5

Sam: Dean, did you pay attention to History class at all?
Dean: Yeah, shot heard round the world, how a bill becomes a law...
Sam: That's not school. That's School House Rock. 10:7

vs

Sam: You're bossy.
Dean: What?
Sam: You're bossy... and short.
Dean: Dude, are you drunk?
Sam: Yeah. So? Stupid. 15:2

S2, R2, B1:

  • I am so proud of you: I don't know if I'll ever be over this line. We shall see.
  • Enabling your sick habit: Same reason as round 1--I love well-fed hedonist Dean.
  • Let me help a little bit: I assume I'm going to be the minority on this one, but it screams S5 to me, and that is ♥
  • I enjoy sunsets: Sassy!Dean for the win. And I don't mean that Sassy.

S2, R2, B2:

  • I had one job and I screwed it up: Just a powerhouse of writing and delivery.
  • Just one part worth saving: Vote for the car people. It saved the world. I'm tellin' ya.
  • I kept you alive for some reason: Ah, YED, you totally shouldn't have.
  • You're bossy...and short: Shaddup, Sasquatch. But you're cute.

Because books.

What were the other occasions?

Finding Andy's bong in Simon Says, and mentioning listening to Dark Side of the Moon while watching The Wizard of Oz in Dream a Little Dream of Me.

And in today's episode, when Sam asks him in the art room if it brings back memories (of being in high school), Dean sees the kid putting the giant bong in the kiln and says, "That brings back memories."

And it does strike me funny. Dean kicking back with a twelve-pack is one thing, doing shots or playing quarters or whatever, but sitting around getting stoned? Just doesn't seem like Dean, except in a "I'll try anything hedonistic once" way.
