Okay, clearly I need to watch this promo. Or maybe I shouldn't so I am more surprised? A dilemma.
Anyway, I just got back from
Push,
and who should be in the first ten minutes but Sam Weechester! Yes, it's true, Colin Ford can now grow up to look like Jared Padalecki AND Chris Evans.
Damn. I bet he can pull for school dances.
::passes Austin salt. hides eyes. is big wuss::
But I'm wondering whether I'm being clueless/culpable/whatever in glossing over the show's issues with gender and race.
I didn't want you to feel ignored, Fay. Though others can speak better than I, because if you're on that train I'm a few rows back.
That being said, I think this season is doing better than last. (Wishful Thinking notwithstanding...)
Damn. I bet he can pull for school dances.
It's gonna depend. That freaky feral kid from The Road Warrior grew up hot, and Haley Joel Osment went from an angelic kid to a young man who looks like he's wearing a mask made out of an angelic kid's face. A lot can change during those awkward teenage years.
Ford does definitely have really good acting chops for his age, though.
I like Ford. I hope he makes it through the teenaged actor meatgrinder into successful adult actor. And person. Some do, right?
Fay, I think show has worked really hard this year to reclaim itself from the skeevy place it went to re: gender and race issues last year. There have been a few missteps, some of them pretty glaring, but as a whole, the writers have been much more aware of where they're putting Sam 'n' Dean's feet.
I have an idea that Dean's hedonistic rush to hell last season appeared to give some writers lisence to throw correctness and awareness and manners out the window, to illustrate his reckless pinball journey toward the pit by shucking civilized behavior. I also think it was a crap idea, and it didn't work at all. They appear, to me at least, to be trying much harder this season to be aware.
It's gonna depend
I admit I don't know a) how old he is and b) what ag e kids start going to dances, but I did mean now, tossing his resume around. Any fangirl his age with a poster of JP or CE should be a bit more piqued.
Huh. I assumed he was younger than 14, and probably not attending any dances as yet. But if kids his age are doing so, you're definitely right about his prospects in the present.
IMDB says 12 yrs old. That would be 6th or 7th grade, right? I think there are some 6 grade sock hops. Regardless, the boy is not gonna be short of girlfriends with their hearts all a-flutter.
Fay, if you check coffeeandink's LJ and click on the Supernatural tag, you'll find some really good discussion of the race and gender issues of the show. She is still watching, FWIW.
