Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?
[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US on TV (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though — if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.
I started reading that Soul Deep, and I had to stop. They took all the fun out of Crowley, plus I discovered I need a warning for random
wingfic.
Halloo.
Amy--you can totally dig how
happy
I am to see
Cas there with the boys, only a little banged up.
I wonder if
a hug
would be too much to have had somewhere leading up to it? I think we deserve it.
Ah, Cass, you know you liked it. Mmm, good.
I definitely can, ita. I am, too, actually.
No one should take the fun out of Crowley. That's ... no fun.
Sam and Dean's interaction keeps coming back to mind.
It was very different from last week. Dean's primary in both episodes, but last week he was in a more paternal, caringish role. This week, he was Sam's reins. When Dean stops Sam from killing Crowley or Brady it's clear that it's not through a display of superior force (jury's out for me who could take who in a fight--Sam's obviously a monster, but I wouldn't be surprised if they'd kept Dean canonically the savvier fighter). Those were pretty simple strength displays, and those Moose would win.
But Dean reins him in. Sam submits.
And then at the end, unleashes him--no, that's not fair. It's more that at the end, Sam does what Sam wants to do, what Sam has wanted to do, but now they both agree that it's time. And they both know that they're in synch. And that's when they're scariest, when they're both working together, as opposed to the disjointedness of much of the rest of the episode.
I still can't get over their little exchange when they call each other by name. It's always so nice when they do it under good terms.
The only exception I'd make to that is that when Brady tells Sam he always listens when demons whisper because they share point Dean gave a Look. I read it as "damn, maybe the demon has a point".
I interpreted it as Dean worrying. But Sam resolutely was on the "ignore demons" side last night, so he seems to be reacting to the lesson of S4.
Dean slipped back into a bit of paternal concern there at the end when Brady started ragging on Sam. But I think they worked together better and more wordlessly than in a long time. I love it when they work wordlessly together. When they're talking to other people, not each other, because they already know what they're doing together.
ehab: Defect. A Criminal Minds/SPN crossover set late SPN S3 and CM while Gideon was still there. I think their Gideon is a bit OOC, but it's decent. I prefer metamorphagi's crossover.
I still can't get over their little exchange when they call each other by name.
When they're completely in sync like that, it's a little chilling. Especially under last night's circumstances.
Most of the other examples I can think of at this hour, off the top of my head, are funnier ones, like their very first encounter with the soon-to-be Ghostfacers in Hell House. But then there's the way they investigate the Sloth victims' house in The Magnificent Seven, wordless.
My brain stopped working. But I know there are more. It just made me shudder last night, when Sam, still looking at Brady, said, "No, they don't, Dean." Gah. BOYS.
I just read Defect. I don't watch Criminal Minds, so I don't know what those characters are like on their show. Was the portrayal accurate? Because the two women didn't do anything except talk about how cute Dean is, and flirt with him. One of them talked about her dress and her jewelry with him. Other than that they served to fetch beverages and change the videotape. The men did all the interviewing and analysis. Is this just the author's perception or are the women not agents but gofers of some sort on that show?
If by the two women you mean JJ and Garcia (it's been a while since I read it), they're not profilers. Garcia is definitely the cute one of the show, and a bit sheltered. She's the tech whiz, and brilliant, but little call for that in this plot. JJ is the media/other law enforcement liaison, also not a big part of the story, but she's not a flirt. Garcia is.
Was either Elle or Prentiss in the story? They are the female profilers, but there was a gap in the show where neither was in it. Metamorphagi has Prentiss as her main CM character.
CM is really hard to write, it seems, and the characterisation and ability to fit all of the ensemble
and
their niches into the story is definitely the weak part of most of the crossovers I've read.

This is so surprising to me because they have really interesting and distinctive characters as opposed to so many of the other procedural shows. I was just thinking I'd love to read more CM fanfic. I haven't started Defect yet, but I'm about to with my morning coffee. I'm looking forward to it.
The volume of spn fanfic staggers my mind sometimes. I can't help but wonder if the enormous pockets of missing time in the Winchester timeline along with tantalizing glimpses of what it was like all conspire to make it well-suited to fic?
I think the fact that they started out by pinning down the 1983 date, jump to 2005, and establish that Sam's been out of pocket for 2/4 years immediately gave a framework. They refer so much to the missing years, and there's so much room to slot so many small stories in there (oh, and porn) that it's just about inevitable.
I am blown away how much fic there is in the fandom. I mean, even avoiding the Wincest there's so much out there to read that's actually properly spelt and grammatically correct. And that's also without touching FF.net other than the odd recommendation here or there.
Still haven't found the Brady porn yet, or decent Crowley smexing. C'mon people! What's holding you up?
