This LJ post draws some interesting and surprising parallels between 1.22 and 5.18.
There's ongoing meta about color in set dressing and light design that develops some interesting themes. Interviews with Serge Ladouceur, the show's lighting designer, bear out this is by design, and not coincidence. There are links in those entries to earlier meta posts about the meaning of color in SPN set and lighting.
I had an awful thought earlier-- knowing Kripke's habit of bringing the pain, and of adding one more level of fuckedupedness to the Winchesters' lives just as you think they can't get any more fucked up, do you think there's any chance that Sam would in fact end up saying yes?
Yes, I've just been trying to figure out the scenario. It would be to save Dean, but how does saying yes do that? I think it's a real possibility esp if Lucy makes the right promises.
For a minute I was all, "Who the hell is Lucy?!"
Um. I get it now.
I think there's every chance he'll do that, Perkins. In fact, I think that could be exactly why this last episode played out the way it did. He made all the right decisions, proved his faith in Dean, and most importantly got Dean to believe in *him* again.
There's not a lot to do after that but make it hurt, I think.

This is what I'm thinking too.
The whole vessel business has been the entire focus of the season, too. Not that I want Lucifer wearing Sam around like a cheap prom dress, but it would be sort of lame if it turns out to be a big nothing-to-see-here and becomes a non-issue.
And Jared plays the devil so well. I'd like to see more of that.
God, though, all the Sam girls will flip out
I will flip out! I mean, sort of. I don't want it to happen, but it feels like it maybe should, and then next season can be all redemptive and shit again. ::nods::
Although it could be a total misdirect, too. Maybe Sam *will* stay strong, and something *will* get Dean to say yes.
Well, it is Dean's turn to really fuck up--Sam did it last season.
