So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I've never heard bob before. Now I want to take my slash definition question to the fanfic thread, because I know I'm not the only one who uses it for non-canonical gay only, but I have no idea if I'm prevalent or not.

I would say not.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm pretty sure Cashmere called me on saying "Brokeback Mountain slash" which is why I know I'm not alone, but I have no idea how not alone I am.

I think I wouldn't describe BBM fic as slash, but would Jack/Ianto.

But that's more a source diff than anything.

What do you see as the difference between them? I mean, they both canonically have M/M sex.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I think in Bob, the sexual/romantic part is more than incidental while still not the primary focus. Nutty's Six of One is distinctly Bob, while Big Pink's Red is more gen, despite both containing het.

And Plei says it way better than I. It's there, it's a part of it certainly, but it's not The Thing. Six of One is a perfect example and precisely the kind of story that makes me wish that Bob was more of a real label and not a ... hopeful label by people who realize that there can be more to a story than 1. No Sex or 2. Sex.

I think if the source is more Bob, ita, then canon m/m is still to me slash. Slash as only non-canonical for the most part doesn't make sense to me, I guess. BBM is an exception.

I know the exact point of BBM was sex, but so much of the point of Captain Jack is sex with whoever, that I can see calling same sex stories with Owen or Tosh or Gwen (apart from their respective canonical same sex outings) or even maybe Ianto, slash, but not with him, because he's macking on someone, probably male, just about every episode.

"I make mistakes, but I am on the side of Good," the Golux said, "by accident and happenchance.” – The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

I've never heard of the bob label. Huh. I suppose lemon, lime and orange are strictly a popslash thing?

I think the citrus stuff comes out of yaoi originally.

Also, only a small number of people latched onto Bob. Like, a dozen of us, maybe. But at the time, I think half that dozen posted here.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I do not know of the citrus.

So, what do we call same-sex canonical 'ship fic (or anything with Jack)? I mean, clearly not het. Not gen or bob, either. I would default to "slash", but mostly out of laziness, as I think relationship-to-canon is an important bit of what "slash" is.
