I think my biggest criticism of the way a scene was played was the bus. None of those kids, or the coach, decided to get off and see what the hell was happening?

Yeah, I was thinking about that this morning. There should have been a mob of kids yelling and getting into the mix, and freaking out at the GUNSHOTS.

We can assume those were salt rounds, right? How did the Winchesters leave the scene? Wouldn't they have been reported to the cops by the kids? That whole thing seemed really kind of messy to me, even more so than usual, because of the number of witnesses.

I'm also left a little uncomfortable about wassername, Amanda? She killed someone and it wasn't her fault and she's left in an insane asylum and it seems even more unfair than usual.

Also, why did Sam just lay there and let the possessed!football player whale on him? What was the point of that? He could have defended himself, or something.

Because books.

Also, why did Sam just lay there and let the possessed!football player whale on him?

My only explanation for that was him keeping "Dirk" occupied while Dean found the hair.

Handwavium! It's the new black.

Distraction for Dean + overly-developed guilt complex.

"I make mistakes, but I am on the side of Good," the Golux said, "by accident and happenchance.” – The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

I agree that Colin Ford was awesome. I definitely believe he added a lot to the episode. But I'm still a bit thrown out of the show by the obvious difference in ages between him and Brock Kelly. As we've discussed, Sam and Dean are 4 years apart. According to IMDB (and yeah, I know they don't have the best track record at accuracy), Colin was born 9/12/96, so he's 12. Brock was born 8/17/85, so he's 23. That's a big difference, and I thought it showed onscreen.

I liked the ending -- no roadside speechifying, and more character development for Sam. And going back to visit a meaningful teacher just seemed like something Sam would do.

Me too. It took me out of the story a little, honestly, because I was all, "Wait, what the fuck, HOW much older is Dean, Jesus God."

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Yes, me too ... I kept getting distracted by the apparent age difference. Also that guy's voice was deep ... and didn't crack once (which I dimly remember happening in HS).

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I swear, despite it not being so on IMDB, that Brock looked taller than Jensen.

As Dean's inferiority complex grew, his height did the opposite.
