"I make mistakes, but I am on the side of Good," the Golux said, "by accident and happenchance.” – The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

I didn't even see Hell House today, but you are taking me to my one of my very happy places. That scene is engraved on the inside of my eyelids.

I have a lot of sympathy for John, probably because of the way JDM played him as well as Dean's love for him, but even that gets twisted later

I have pretty much no sympathy for John. Despite the physical loveliness of JDM any sympathy got burned out of me by John's treatment of the boys -- when Dean, the supremely competent and obedient soldier/son called him in tears, saying that he was afraid and didn't know what to do, John did nothing. He didn't show up, didn't even call. Even though he was in the same damned town. When Sam, who we can be pretty sure didn't call and ask for much of anything in the intervening years, called and told him that Dean was dying, again, John did nothing. Didn't even call. Once John reestablished contact it was only to send them off on missions again. His only excuse for a lack of conversation, if I remember correctly, was that it was safer for them if he wasn't in contact. But apparently it was safe enough for him to contact them and order them around and put them in danger chasing various supernatural beasties. I get conflicted sometimes about my reactions to Sam, and occasionally Dean drives me up a wall, but I remain gloriously unconflicted about John.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

For the sake of the story, I love what John has done to Dean and Sam. Because of JDM, I find his presentation sexy.

I can't even say I'd want to save the boys from him if I were in the universe, because it's so gloriously impossible.

So on conflicting levels I appreciate John, but he's an absolute ass. He does gruffly touching things later, but he's still an ass. Those boys needed a mother, but then we'd have had no story.

Then again, I liked JDM as The Comedian in Watchmen, and that's an unequivocally nasty character. He has a way about him. I need to see him do something else--something not Denny.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Morgana, as a parent I have a lot more sympathy for John. I've always believed him when he said it "wasn't safe" for him to be in close proximity to his sons--that if Azazel was stalking him, he didn't want to lead it to Sam. Or if it was stalking Sam, John thought he'd have a better line on exorcising it if he had enough distance to work. I do believe he got to Lawrence as fast as he could when Dean called. He wasn't there before, but he came. They didn't see him, but he was watching to make sure they did okay, while avoiding contact.

And I've always believed it was John who called Joshua with the lead on Roy LeGrange, so that Joshua would pass the information on to Sam.

John wasn't a good parent. But under the circumstances, he was the best parent Sam and Dean could have had. There's been much speculation that if John had left the boys in foster care, they'd have been with people who were unable to protect them from Azazel or any other evil thing. I'm sure he'd have felt far better if he'd known they would have "normal" while he went off to look for demons. But he couldn't leave them unprotected.

Lots of shallow thoughts about that ep--the boys bound and cut? Meg taunting them? Mmmm.

Jensen had worked with Nicki before, on DA. There was a whole day of filming the brothers tied up, and Nicki took great advantage of both of them--Jensen in particular, grinding and sliding. He finally told her, "Just--sit still."

I don't think she did.

Because books.

I need to see him do something else--something not Denny.

He was good in a little indie movie called Jam as a single dad of two. His role in P.S. I Love You is pretty brief, but it's worth for a) a look at his bare ass, b) his Irish accent, and c) hearing him sing.

There's also a ridiculous but fun little comedy-horror indie called Dead and Breakfast where he plays the sheriff.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Don't forget his role on Angel as Timex Guy!

Aha! I forget him as Timex Guy.

I will have to hit up Netflix for his other appearances. I'd like to find him attractive playing something other than an asshole, please. It would help my estimation of my mental health.

I caught some of Something Wicked this morning. I'm remembering the angst-fuel that it indeed is, although I think A Very Supernatural Christmas still wins for me. It has better Wee!Sam, for starters.

I'm not particularly looking forward to the subject matter of Swap Meat this week, but at least it makes a little more sense for them not to be chasing Lucifer if something adverse is being done to them. They need reasons for the filler.

My devotion to the brotherly bond will need a lot of convincing of why Dean doesn't notice someone else is playing Sam, but the snarky part of me says that if the kid that swaps with him is emo enough, it might be hard to tell. Or if Dean is being prickish enough, would he even be paying enough attention? Though one assumes one swaps with Sam for Small Potatoes sorts of reasons, so I'd expect some OOC behaviour.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I'd like to find him attractive playing something other than an asshole, please.

I think he's in a few Weeds flashbacks.

Because books.

I barely remember him on Angel, and I don't have the season on DVD yet! I think. I have to check.

He is in Weeds a few times. With his ex-girlfriend, no less.

Snerk.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

His role in P.S. I Love You is pretty brief, but it's worth for a) a look at his bare ass, b) his Irish accent, and c) hearing him sing.

Dear me, yes. That movie has JDM, Gerard Butler, and Harry Connick Jr. Really, you can't go wrong here.

I think he's in a few Weeds flashbacks.

Yes, he is.
