Hmm. I've been thinking of the brothers dying as a result of the battle with Lucifer, and that they probably can't with season six becoming more likely. But Castiel could totally buy it.
As can Bobby, but that's just too much in a season where we lost Ellen.
It's entirely possible that both could buy it in the big climactic battle and then get brought back for Season 6 by another agency. Castiel and Anna would both be disposed to do so if either is left standing at the end, and others might have their own reasons.
Next time a Winchester dies I want them to stay dead.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, much as I love them.
Yes.
So, the boys die at the end of this season after finally destroying Lucifer, and in the sixth, they're in heaven, fighting the civil war that continues to rage there!

Heh. They did something like this with Xena (well in one ep).
But Killing Lucifer and driving off the Angels could have all sorts of fallout. Maybe the sixth season could be rescuing Castiel. Really I just want the 5th season to end they way it was originally planned whatever that is. Then they come up with a good 6th season or not, and if not I can pretend it never happened, but still be thankful for 5th season that did not get diluted by setup for the sixth.

Me too.

In some of my more disgruntled moments I find myself thinking that Castiel is really not all that effective anyway, ya know? Pretty to look at, fun to snicker at, but he doesn't really provide that much useful information or firepower or backup. He's not really any more effective a backup than any of the earthly allies the Winchesters might come across, so losing him, while it might be hurtful, wouldn't be a huge gaping hole on the Loss side of the Win/Loss chart.
