Because books.

I'm pretty Winchestered out when it comes to fic.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm using long fic on the Nook as my wind down reading since I'm not allowed to use lighted screens after about 7. I'm selecting just based on length and pairing, scrolling down AO3's completed filter on the ship and grabbing everything over 20K in bundles of six to ten.

It's definitely not the best way to choose reading material--my previous method of jumping from bookmark list to bookmark list had much better results, but I've kind of used that up, and it needs to lie fallow before I can hit it again. The biggest impracticality of it is that I rarely go back and give feedback, since I'm disconnected from AO3.

I have to remember to make an effort to check for WIPs, because those are nice too, after all. Reading many fewer short fics (under 10K) unless I'm looking for quick porn hits. But I am kinda getting less...responsive to those. But hitting gems like the music prodigy/rope suspension/"Amish" Cas and the touch-sensitive mindreader Cas/reporter Dean makes it all worth it. I will still read a decent high school AU, but it's lovely to see people being different.

Weirdly, I think one of my AU draws is the utter romance that in every world, in every configuration, Dean and Cas still find each other. How massively sappy, huh?

I don't know when I'll be Winchestered out. Maybe when the show holds no shine for me? Or when I get the discipline to read more original fiction, of which I have scads on the Nook.

I am officially part of the middle aged ladies ereader porn militia. But they weren't talking about us when they coined that clique.

Yeah, I'm reading many more books right now than fic -- there's not a lot of fic out there I like, and I can't be bothered to look for it most of the time. I'm also trying to write original stuff, so I'm trying to conserve words for where they're put to the best use (for me).

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

And...Jensen Ackles, shirtless 1999 cowboy: [link]

He was a delicately pretty boy; I prefer him with age. And the 90's hair is GLORIOUS.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

there's something a little too boy band about that era JA. I feel pervy looking at those pics... but I still look.

It's VERY boy band! I don't feel pervy looking at them, because they don't give me even a flutter of oost; they crack me up.

I was a fan of him at the time, and thought most of those pictures were delicious. I still do, just not about as many. So far he hasn't had an adult age I don't like him at--he started out insanely pretty, and is ageing very gracefully.

I just finished a D/C crossdressing story where Dean is just about at the end of the age he can get away with being seamless (he's going to boarding school in women's clothes--he's not transgendered, but it's the only way he can think of to get to dress in women's clothes for any length of time with so little fuss. It was very sweet, and not too difficult to visualise, even though we catch him IRL at a time where he's a bit too built to be a sexy chick.

The mind creased fic had me on tears when Dean called Sam to tell him he wanted to be a better person and Sam was all "fuck that noise" and they met on equal ground.

Also, brilliant details that just bring the fic to life. And I just love that Momma Tran is the police commissioner. Small detail that felt so right.
