Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?

[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US on TV (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though — if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I have two D/C fic recommendations, both fairly different.

  • one is a Stargate: SG1 fusion that's *nearly* perfect--the mappings and tone and characterisations for both shows are pretty excellent though I definitely think Sam
should be the archeologist and Charlie might like fieldwork more. Compressed timeline, some "why do I feel these feels", but tiny things: Beyond The Event Horizon by plaintainleaf

  • and a weird H/S AU WIP with Endverse abrasive Cas. She's no Scaramouche and there are way too much hip song lyrics (though, Cure! I took a Just like Heaven break at the appropriate time)--it's one of those ones where I finally feel the author's inclusion of details that might be their life serve the story and characters in an interesting and illuminating way, not just an "I forced my issues onto my favourite ship" or "here's a laundry list of every thought I've ever had about them in loose chronological order" ways: Get Inside My Soul by angelivenantium (Cas tastes likes cigarettes, FTR, and sometimes mint, so far)

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Oooo, is Cas a Jolinar-esque Tok'ra in the first one? It hadn't occurred to me before, but the angel/vessel situation would map really well to symbiont/host.

Go look--finding out the mappings is part of the fun.

I mean, if you don't want to read it, Castiel is Teal'c, and it's basically his transition story, but if you are going to read it, why not be unspoilt?

Okay, I'm writing this idea down because it makes me laugh and I can't decide if I should do it--but I want to! So don't steal it. I want to do a Take On Me style D/C picture.

All because of a stupid VW ad.

Because books.

Oh, I think I saw that! I remember when that video came out.

It could be cute! Plus--black and white, minimal shading. COULD IT BE MORE SUITED TO MY limitationsstyle???

IT COULD NOT BE!

Exactly!

Oh, and if people can help me with photos of JP/Sammy boy with messy hair, that would be great. I don't have a wide enough range of hair references for him, and it limits what I can draw of him...early stuff is good too, since I ship him and Jess ridic hard.

Oh! The H/S AU with hipster!Endverse!Cas is not a WIP. She put a "prologue" in Cas POV on the end and it must have reset the chapter total. It's a completed story.

it's wordy, and it's emo, and it needs spag help, but as noted--she used her specific knowledge for good here (except for the music). I enjoyed it, and its energy and the intimacy that develops.

V. sad, with self-harm triggers and references to past suicide.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Rediscovery: rewatching season 8 does not make me like the soft gel lens on the Sam/Amelia flashbacks any better. But more importantly, doesn't make me like the Sam/Amelia flashbacks any better period, except for the grace note that it doesn't work out in the end. Which makes me happy, but also makes it feel like a giant waste of time. Which I didn't feel about the Dean/Lisa scenes (though they were far fewer by eons and not flashbacky). I thought those were good building blocks to step on then step away from. The whole Amelia business just (still) feels like wasted space. It all just feels like a disservice to Jared/Sam and Amelia/her actress. I can't recall if anyone adequately fanwanked that entire storyline and the reason for its existence to my satisfaction (but probably not if I can't remember it). I'm starting to do large skips in my rewatch, because I can't recall any reason to recall Amelia and the soft focus at all.
