Hey, preaching to the choir. I thought our Lady of the Perpetual Sea Breeze was the real deal until the Divine Miss J walked right through that door and right into my ass—which is where my heart is…physiologically. I could show you an x-ray.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I can see where witches might bump up against demons, since they were centuries old, weren't they? I'd imagine a large number of demons are way younger than that.

But the whole witch-handling on the show doesn't work for me. I think they punked out, and with lack of follow through seems to be lack of fleshing the mythology out.

Because books.

Even when witches die, it's usually by their own hand -- with Patrick's girlfriend in The Curious Case of Dean Winchester, and even in It's the Great Pumpkin, the witch had summoned Samhain by the time Sam got to him.

Okay--human opponents:

  • The Benders: They kill at least one of them, right? And Missy lives?
  • Curious Case: one suicide, one walks
  • Great Pumpkin: They kill 1, 1 becomes Samhain
  • Swap Meat: 1 kid dies, 1 gets possessed and purged, and Gary walks
  • The Starks: Sail off into the sunset
  • Kids in the Walls: What's the name of that ep, again? Do they kill them both?

Which ones am I missing?

Because books.

Family Remains. I think those could be rationalized as self-defense, though.

And do they kill the female witch in Great Pumpkin? I can't remember now -- I thought the Samhain guy killed her.

Family Remains is the kids in the wall, right? Supergirl?

Let me look up the Pumkills ba-doo-cha! Try the waitress and tip your veal!

Sam shoots Don to prevent him harming Tracy. Tracy finishes spell, Samhain rises in Don and kills Tracy.

Okay, I've been seeing double for the past five hours. I can't stay on the computer.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

I was talking about then, when the Leviathans were being an issue. If they'd demonstrated they could end the Leviathans, I'd have considered it a retread of every other deal with the devil they've done, but since they couldn't do that I would feel it was even more of a moral compromise than NOT PUNISHING THEM IN ANY WAY FOR MULTIPLE MURDERS.

What the fuck is the justification of that? I'm at a loss

I kind of assumed that not punishing them for multiple murders was a matter of the witches being tough mothers who would have taken a lot of time and energy to kill. I fanwank that Dean has a little list of being to get to later, when there is no apocalypse imminent and that the witches come immediately after Crowley. Not canon, but not contradicted.

As to rationalizing a deal: The witches spell might not kill, but it is not a two minute stun. The Leviathan is stunned for days. That means that once stunned you have plenty of time to to behead and borax the thing. (OK, probably would not work as well on Dick, but the boys did not know that at the time.) And working with witches might have given the boys insight as to how to take them down later .

Also this particular spell seemed to be considered not even particularly high level by Don Spark. So maybe they could have tracked down the Poker playing witch or a witch who acquired her powers through some means other than deals with Demons (like the one we saw in later episode where the demon took her son). That spell would have been useful - a means of taking down a Leviathan quickly, that lasted days and worked at a distance and did not require carry large amounts of liquid. The boys should have done something to try and get hold of it. And I would say it would have even been worth a deal with Don Sparks - as long as Sparks stayed on the list of beings to kill later.

As much as I like Lettie's art, I do have to admit that her Hawkeye might as well be her Dean...

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

So, I had a lengthy dream involving SPN, including multiple episodes, season long arcs, and a long Q&A with Misha, none of which I can remember very well and all supplied by my subconscious, so probably of limited interest to people who are not me (there were a lot of explosions, that much survived waking up). Apparently, if I were in charge, Season 10 would be all about Finding the Father, with JDM returning and an explanation of the whole God situation.

Season 10?! Wow. You dream long-term.

Apparently. So, in two years or so when I'm all "I totally dreamed this episode" y'all can be like "pfft, that description was totally vague".
