As a celebrity parent you can bet I'd keep my kid out of my fame like that. If she's an actor (I understand Colin Ford's had a twitter for a while), sure, market yourself, but those people following her...why in hell are they doing it?

I was perusing spn-au and someone has a LJ icon of West, which creeped me right out.

Okay, I think West is possibly one of the adorablest kids ever, but CREEPY SHIT. I enjoy looking at pictures of him, but he hasn't offered himself up as a public figure. And no matter what hijinx Misha gets up to with his vidcam, he hasn't either.

I'd actually be fine with my kids having a Twitter account, but I'm not a celebrity of whatever renown. He said she has her own now, and he has to approve followers or whatever, but I can't help thinking it's still asking for trouble.

As I recall, she's on the spectrum. I know when she took over her Dad's account, and was sad that he wouldn't let her have her own, some of us suggested she suggest that she offer to let him vet who she follows. And if it's locked down, then it controls who can see her posts, too, so I think it'll give her a controlled introduction to social networking that'll be really good for her in the long run.

Spectrum or not, she's ten. And a girl. And the child of an actor with some visibility. If anything, I think in that case any spectrum disorders could make it more likely she wouldn't have great judgment about what she was reading, or reading, or whatever. It's a big internet, and it wouldn't be unlikely for a smart enough kid to be accessing the web elsewhere than in Dad's presence, and reading and saying whatever she wanted.

It's a safety issue for me, with a child that age.

Spectrum makes her WAY less likely to not follow the rules/instructions set out for online use. WAY less likely.

She's going to need to have it at some point (not Twitter, but social networking in general, and SHIT, I owe someone links for her teenager on the spectrum to read, and I suck and should do that), and before puberty with controls and guidelines is far better than later and on her own.

That may be true, but for me it's still a safety issue. I love Misha's pictures of West, too, but if I were him I wouldn't put them on the internet publicly.

Think about Rebecca Schaefer. She was hardly an A-level, worldwide celebrity, and she was murdered. All it takes is one psycho stalker fan.

Have you read his feed? She's already broadly and publicly flouted his rules and regulations, and been pretty shameless about the whole thing. It started off out of control, and hasn't really stopped being a mild trainwreck since.

I think West is young enough that Misha's not sharing a person, not someone who is responding to this, and who can be used to get to him. He's just a cutesy pie anecdote for now.

I agree. She's 10, an only child, motherless, and on the spectrum. Any two of the four of these characteristics is enough to bring out the naughty. I'm just breezing past Jim's tweets and praying people are being kind to her.

So the boys use iron to dispel ghosts a lot. What sort of iron do they carry around with them? I mean, sure Dean's got a crowbar, but do they take that inside on hunts? Chains? Pokers? How do they arm themselves ferrously? My plot bunny needs to know.
