I've been reading the Bingo cards and it just occurred to me -- when's the last time we actually saw them use John's journal? (Which is not a reflection on the cards, as you said they could utilize tropes from any episode. I'm just saying in general, I can't recall the last time either of the guys started paging through the journal to look for some arcane bit of lore.)
'Jaynestown'
Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?
[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US on TV (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though — if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.
I thought about the journal in Frontierland, but I don't know if they showed it.
I know we saw in late in S4, but I'm blanking on S5.
Sam used it in 6.12, looking for dragon references.
Story-wise, it makes sense for them to pull it out less and less. I would imagine that over the years, they would have gone through the journal multiple times, even when they weren't looking for something specific. They would probably go back to it to verify details from time to time, kind of the way a cook might double-check a cookbook even on a familiar recipe.
I know you're not supposed to say that someone's watching the show wrong. Maybe we can just say they write like crap?
For the first time in his life, someone needed him , to be there for him . Dean wasn't sure how to cope with this.
That Dean. No on ever relied on him. He had a responsibility-free childhood, he did.

rolls eyes forever and ever and ever
I know the author wants to make Castiel special, but you can't do that by ignoring the very core of Dean's existence to date.
Oh, sure you can! If you're fourteen and clueless.
So I was listening to my Disney playlist the other day, as you do, and suddenly every song was relevant to SPN.
"I Just Can't Wait to Be King," for Sam
"He's a Tramp," for Jo crushing on Dean
"One Jump Ahead," for Dean and Sam on the lam and scamming credit cards
"Cruella de Ville," for almost any of the villains
"I Won't Say I'm in Love," for Castiel and/or Dean about the other
I could spend the rest of my summer filking lyrics to the Disney!Supernatural musical.
In other news, I saw this and immediately thought: Castiel's quarters in heaven. (Even though canon disagrees.)
