The bigger part of me just thinks that there's a Jewish writer on staff. A smaller part hopes that there is some in-character reason for the expressions that seem outside of Dean's ken.
Well, you can always have both. Supernatural has had a lot of Jewish writers on staff. Gamble, for one, and Carver. I think Kripke and Singer are Jewish, as well, though unlike Gamble and Carver, I've never seen/heard/read them talking about it. So there's your Doylest reason, but that doesn't stop there from being a Watsonian explanation.
Well, the Gamble promo for next week might suggest an in-universe explanation.
However, if I have reasons for tossing Yiddish into my speech, why can't Dean?
I'm also having a hard time believing Dean doesn't know who Lovecraft is, because he totally would.
I'd have much preferred it if he'd been familiar with Lovecraft and said something about Cassie giving him hell for having über-racist literature around when they were together and not accepting "Hey baby, it's research!" as an excuse. There you go, heterosexuality vetted, and without having to portray intelligence as a hindrance to getting some.

OMG! Also, a person from that show is on Show!
Wow. Also, cool to the person from the other show!
Suppose the thing in the preview is the cliffhanger for S7? They wouldn't do that, would they?
Oh!
That's a terrible thought.. . but maybe it would mean that person from other show will also be in season 7?
Wow, I totally didn't recognize that person from that show!
Wow, I totally didn't recognize that person from that show!
Actually, me either. I had to hit up imdb to track her down. I feel very, very embarrassed.
Hmph. I am trying to stay unspoiled for the show, even in terms of previews, and you people are being SO MEAN
