Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I like warnings for canon death, since they've all died. If the story features them not coming back from a canon death, I may not be interested unless it's really good.

I wish people would also warn up front if they hate Sam. It would save time. If you think Dean is better off without him, I don't care how hot the porn gets. You're not writing anything vaguely related to what I want out of the show.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I wish authors would warn if they have a complete inability to discern whether "your" or "you're" is appropriate to use in a given sentence, or to tell the difference between "whose" and "who's." It's not naming villains on Stargate people, don't just throw apostrophes all over the damn place at random!

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

So, I have ventured into certain fic territory, and I just have to ask, why does that subset seem to HATE JDM? Why the evil rapey villain? WHY? What did Jeffrey ever do to anyone?

Because books.

Are you talking about RPS, Julie? Because I've seen toppy (hella), but never that.

Julie, you have wandered where I cannot follow. A slavefic description that got me kinda agitated had JDM as Jensen's master, and aiee. Unless it's shameless apologia, I can't go there ten times harder with RPF.

Yeah, Amy. I have stuck to the AU's, but I keep getting surprised with JDM being the villain of the piece, if not a downright vile character. And it's never in the description. There's the eternally amusing warnings for CMM's existence, but I really wish there was a warning for, like with Sam, hating JDM/John.

I don't get people who hate either brother. Why are they watching this show?

I have stuck to the AU's

I don't read a lot of those, and the ones I have read don't villainize him (not that I would read them if they warned for it).

I think I know the AU ita is referring to, though, and it was a very ambitious but not unproblematic AU where owning slaves was not only legal but sort of required for a certain class. It was incredibly romanticized, and Jeff was secretly allied with those who were trying to free them, etc., so his relationship with Jensen was really complex, and ultimately very caring. But like I said, *hugely* problematic and not in the least bit realistic are understatements. The representation of Jensen came really close to angst/abuse porn (from his past) a lot of the time.

Which is a long way of saying in that one Jeff is painted as a hero, but if you can't stomach a 'verse with slavery, it ain't for you.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I get that people have triggers, but I do wonder what happens when they read fiction in book form.

One of the women in my book club has a very specific trigger. But one of the rules in our book club is that at least one person has to have read a given book before it's assigned. So they let the woman with triggers know that on pages xx-yy there'll be a trigger situation, and what she needs to know about the rest of the content on those pages to get the rest of the book. We meet monthly, so there are 12 books a year she can read without worrying.

So, I have ventured into certain fic territory, and I just have to ask, why does that subset seem to HATE JDM?

I've seen a few requests on SPN storyfinders for fic with really awful JDM or John. And, yeah, I don't get it. Canonically his character was distant and made some questionable parenting choices, but raping Dean and keeping him in line by threatening to do the same to Sam ? That's a pretty radical reinterpretation of the text.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Does anyone get their SPN through iTunes? How long after airtime does it tend to go up?

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Sometimes it's up at midnight, sometimes 3am (I claim insomnia!), sometimes not until 4pm the next day. They are very eratic.
