Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?

[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US on TV (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though — if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.

...all my words have been taken by my work. - Mala

Oh I love the In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida scene!

I truly don't get the promotional stuff, then. It makes no kind of sense. Clearly SPN is the Cinderella of the network.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

From looking through the music lists, there has been a song playing maybe once or twice while Cas is onscreen.

And S6 is sadly bereft of music. Goddamn budget concerns. Though, of the music they've chosen, a lot of it has stuck with me--Beautiful Loser, Smoke On The Water, Space Oddity, The Gambler. Still, I hope they pick up in the back half and rock on.

Because books.

You forgot to add "tiara" there, ehab.

My top ten uses of music in Show:

"White Rabbit" during Hunted
"Everybody Plays the Fool" at Crowley's house, Abandon All Hope
Joey Ramone's "What a Wonderful World" while Dean cuts the grass in WIAWSNB
"The Gambler" during Weekend at Bobby's
"Can't Find My Way Home", Route 666
"Renegade," Nightshifter
"In-a-Gadda-da-Vida," Skin
"A Simple Man," Free to Be, You and Me
"Lady in Red," Tall Tales

and for #10, totally cheating: All of the music in Crossroad Blues

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

What's your favourite use of music in an episode?

Renegade, and the song Dean and then Sam started singing on the way to the "final" showdown with Lilith at the end of S3, which I am totally blanking on.

Because books.

Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive," Perkins.

Okay, to prove that I can, I'm going to do a top five. I think ten might kill me, frankly.

  • In A Gadda Da Vida (I just can't get over Jensen's face as he looks at the SWAT team--he's just so marvellous at playing not!Dean. It's smoking hot and gets me every time)
  • Beautiful Loser (I am so sad about Dean/Lisa. I think he...not sold out, not compromised, but definitely sacrificed a big part of himself. He was doing something very important to Dean, providing and being the backbone of a family unit, and that's the beautiful part of it, but he wasn't being true to himself, and that's the loser. Also, the drinking. Always with the drinking)
  • Renegade (Total gut punch here. It's a brilliant Victor moment without Victor being in the frame--you understand just how fucked the boys are from here on in, and that they've finally got a nemesis--not just an enemy or an antagonist, but a good and proper nemesis, and the best they ever had)
  • Spirit In The Sky (It's such a boppy pleasant song, but really spooky and ominous with the religious overtones in a post S4 Supernatural world. And over the abandoned town in Good God Y'all? Even worse. I also like how it was worked in as playing on the car radio)
  • O Death (Because he's badass like that. I'll forever associate the brush off of his shoulder with the haunting vocals)

Honourable mention goes to Smoke On The Water for all its uses.

Oh man, I totally missed the last two, and I even meant to put "O Death" on there. You totally win at this game.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

O Death

this this so very much this. I cannot think of another song or scene in the entire series run that gives me such Supernatural chills.

::fist pump::

Here's a question I totally can't answer: if you were going to pick signature songs for any of the main or recurring characters on the show, what would you pick?

I feel I just don't know enough music to answer that question. The best I can come up with is "Behind Blue Eyes" for Sam, and it irritates me because his eyes aren't blue.

Because books.

Oooh, I'll have to think about that one for a bit. I can totally do it, it's just narrowing it down to one that's hard.

Although my instinct is to say right off that Dean's would be "House of Wolves," by My Chemical Romance.

Lyrics:

Well, I know a thing about contrition, Because I got enough to spare. And I'll be granting your permission, 'Cause you haven't got a prayer. Well I said hey, hey hallelujah, I'm gonna come on sing the praise. And let the spirit come on through ya, We got innocence for days!

Well, I think I'm gonna burn in hell, Everybody burn the house right down.

And say, ha What I wanna say Tell me I'm an angel, Take this to my grave. Tell me I'm a bad man, Kick me like a stray. Tell me I'm an angel, Take this to my grave.

(S-I-N, I S-I-N S-I-N, I S-I-N S-I-N, I S-I-N S-I-N, I S-I-N)

You play ring around the ambulance, Well like you never gave a care. So get the choir boys around you, It's a compliment, I swear. And I said, ashes to ashes, we all fall down, I wanna hear you sing the praise, I said, ashes to ashes, we all fall down, We got innocence for days!

Well, I think I'm gonna burn in hell, Everybody burn the house right down.

And say, ha What I wanna say Tell me I'm an angel, Take this to my grave. Tell me I'm a bad man, Kick me like a stray. Tell me I'm an angel, Take this to my grave.

You better run like the devil, 'Cause they're never gonna leave you alone! You better hide up in the alley, 'Cause they're never gonna find you a home! And as the blood runs down the walls, You see me creepin' up these halls. I've been a bad motherfucker Tell your sister I'm another Go! Go! Go!

And I said, say, What I wanna say Tell me I'm an angel, Take this to my grave. Tell me I'm a bad man, Kick me like a stray. Tell me I'm an angel, Take this to my grave.

Tell me I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad man. Tell me I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad man. Tell me I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad man. Tell me I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad man. So get up! So get out! S-I-N, I S-I-N!
