I have no doubt that Kurt will survive to reveal how miraculously understanding and supportive he can be once faced with Dean's career as a hunter. And possibly be instrumental to further hunts because jazz music and architectural drawings are the keys to heretofore unrevealed weaknesses of supernatural creatures .

Matt, you make me larf. But you've got it wrong, narratively, Kurt needs to survive so that he can be understanding about what he sees between Cas and Dean and walk away. Because he doesn't want to be settled for. Which still doesn't guarentee Dean/Cas, and Dean is ALONE OMG TEH ANGST!
