Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?

[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US on TV (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though — if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.

"I make mistakes, but I am on the side of Good," the Golux said, "by accident and happenchance.” – The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

Sam wants Dean there but not to be his brother, as a hunting weapon.

I think Sam wants Dean there because Dean is what he's missing as more than a weapon. I think he knows Dean is what he's missing as a person

I have to agree with ita on this one. If all Sam wanted was a Dean-shaped weapon to add to his arsenal, wouldn't he have shown up at Lisa's doorstep a year ago? If we accept the rather clumsy explanation the writers provided he stayed away because he wanted Dean to have the opportunity at a normal life, and while that wish began before he jumped into hell it continued upon his return. That was something he wanted because he thought it was something good that Dean deserved (leaving aside the glaring neon wrongness of letting Dean believe his brother was in hell...which in fact he may still be, come to think of it). Anyway, this seems to imply that he is capable of wanting something good for someone else. So either he's not completely cold or the writers are not completely consistent.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I think he knows Dean is what he's missing as a person, and he knows that because they're brothers. Dean's all soul at this point.

Your argument is persuasive. I am now more positively inclined toward this season so far.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I think Sam knows what he thinks is good for Dean, but doesn't get that what he was doing hurt, which I find consistent.

Seeing Dean made the difference, because it highlighted his lack, and he wanted what was his, and what he was missing.

The only way I can make this function in my head is by reminding myself that a large part of what makes Sam Sam isn't present at the moment, and that what we and Dean have been seeing isn't really Sam. It's not Sam on a bad day, or Sam being pissy, or Sam acting out of anger or arrogance or thinking he knows how to do it better, or because he wants to put one over on Dean. It literally isn't really Sam.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Real Life Supernatural?

Opus Angelorum, which means "the work of angels" in Latin, was founded by an Austrian housewife who died in 1978.

She claimed to have identified the angels and demons who were battling for the control of human beings.

"What would it take to get your daughter to stop tweeting about this?"

Was her last name Campbell?

Grand Slam at Denny's:

I was in Walgreens today and walked by a display of Criss Angel party tricks. Someone walked behind me and I wanted to tell them, "you know he's a douche bag".

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I think that we're about to see some sort of payoff for Ash's throwaway line about soulmates from Dark Side of the Moon. If there's that sort of connection, it would explain a lot about Dean's visceral wrong, wrong, wrong reaction to Sam as well as Sam's needing Dean as a sort of anchor. I think it's also going to play into however they wind up fixing Sam.

Wow, I love this idea.

Someone walked behind me and I wanted to tell them, "you know he's a douche bag".

Heh. Indeed.

I have not, since that episode aired, had the words "Criss Angel" in my head without "is a douchebag."

We're there! It's Show day!

Unrelatedly, I had another meeting with the guy that looks like daggomus_prime's drawings yesterday, and it's severely distracting. May he never wonder what the small smile is about.
