My GOD. I just got into a "debate" with someone who thinks Dean was a Christian. When presented with the quote "There's no higher power, there's no God" she says she'd rather not go into it. That's SO not YMMV or a different perspective. That's you being wrong, lady. That's you missing a rather large point of the entire freaking series.
And she doesn't want to go into it any more. AHEM. Way to bail in the face of reality. I mean, fictional reality.
Lady may be conflating Dean with his actor, who grew up in an evangelical Christian home.
You might hit her with the quote from Faith, "I'm not exactly a believer."
She's basically told me to fuck off, so that discussion is done. And if "there's no God" doesn't do it, I don't get what will.
I always wondered just how evangelical they could be, though, with the acting and all.
Evangelical doesn't always mean conservative or fundamentalist.
There are liberal evangelicals - Fred of Slacktivst blog is one.
Oh! I had no idea. Thanks, askye.
Evangelical has been used to mean conservative or fundamentalist (although there's been a split between that).
All evangelical really means is : emphasizing salvation by faith in the atoning death of Jesus Christ through personal conversion, the authority of Scripture, and the importance of preaching as contrasted with ritual
I think some evangelicals believe that everything in the Bible is true and must be taken literally and others believe that the Bible is the true on the matters of faith.
So some will say that the story of Creation is literally true and took place in 6 24 hour days and others (like my grandmother) say that Creation is true and but that it didn't take a literal 24 hour period because we can't know how God works or how God perceives time.

Really?
Hee.
I think it's a good thing that the new season starts in 12 days. (Because fic writers need new inspiration.)
Thanks for the explanation, askye. I grew up in a fundie evangelical home, and the terms are sometimes confusing for me.
