No problem. I wasn't hopeful, though, because if it had grabbed me I would have gone back to read it carefully instead of skim through for the objectionable bits, and I really wasn't interested.

Actually, I'm impressed I'm still finding stuff. I've read hundreds of stories over the past few months, and it's just one fandom and I'm avoiding one huge genre and one huge pairing. Sure, I've come up across a lot of crap, but I just checked and I've bookmarked 200+ stories.
I bumped into this on an open tab on my computer where I don't usually read fic. It's D/C slavefic for wimps, easy on the consensual issues, without totally pussying out. To High Places By Narrow Roads, by sansday.

Oh god, high school AUs take me right to bandom. And my shame.
I could see a high school AU if it was our Dean and Cas shows up then, to save him from something, or to protect him, knowing his destiny. Which is not quite the same AU you mean, but I have my limits.

I just checked my bookmarks, and AU is one of my top ten tags. Only 21, including 2 vids, so it's actually less than I'd have thought. And the college AUs (I know, I know) equal the number of the HS ones.
I have my limits.

It's a fascinating thing. I have AU issues, but they still fill something for me. I can't explain it. Just about everyone does Cas wrong, for instance (although I think the slavefic above does him plausibly right), but I still can't get enough.

I'm reading the slavefic now. It's my kind of AU because it at least hinges off the SPN world we know. It's not the best written thing in the world, but it's interesting, and I like both her portrayal of Cas and the issues around slavery, even if they have been softened by Dean's perspective (which avoids a lot of the messiest issues).
I'm having a hard time with Sam in this, though.
