Simon: I'm trying to put this as delicately as I can... How do I know you won't kill me in my sleep? Mal: You don't know me, son. So let me explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

"I make mistakes, but I am on the side of Good," the Golux said, "by accident and happenchance.” – The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

Since we've been finding stories for one another, maybe someone can help me find this one:

I think I read it sometime in the last 6-8 months and foolishly didn't save it to my bookmarks. I read it on LJ, and I think it's in 2 parts. What I remember: it's future-fic, set after the apocalypse has been settled. Dean has been married, has a daughter and son and is separated from his wife (who is now dating, because she shows up at Bobby's with the guy). He shares custody of the kids, and he's living with Bobby. He hasn't seen Sam for years when suddenly one Halloween Sam reappears out of the shadows down at the end of the long driveway to the junkyard.

It seems that as part of how they dealt with the apocalypse Sam became sort of dark/demonic (although if I remember correctly he's using his abilities to protect Dean's family from supernatural threats and to keep the seals closed). He can only come through to see Dean on Halloween. Dean has to break the wards around the house to let Sam through. I think they go out for a drink at a bar, and I don't remember why Sam leaves abruptly that year, but he comes back the next year. They're surprised when it turns out that Dean's daughter has had dreams about Sam and they recognize each other right away. The guys take the kids trick or treating. Dean tries to convince Sam to stick around. And yes, it does turn into wincest. I don't think Dean's kids are old enough to be hunting yet. In fact I'm not sure if he even ever told them about the hunting life - I can't remember. I do remember him telling the daughter that if she sees anything that scares her and he's not around that she should go find Sam right away, and she was a bit surprised that Dad ranked Sam even ahead of Uncle Bobby.

So, does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

I'm watching Dark Side of the Moon

Theresa -- I haven't been able to rewatch that episode yet. Can you tell me, does anyone in it specifically state that heaven consists of a recreation of a person's happiest memories, or was that something that fandom decided on its own?

"What would it take to get your daughter to stop tweeting about this?"

The brothers form the theory (Heaven is a place where you re-live your greatest hits) early after they get together. Ash validates it for them but his information is from his experience. He has also been able to harness the system and can jump into and between other Heavens formed by other peoples memories. I think we are left with it only because it's never proven false.

Also I forgot how much happy!Sam dancing in the field made me cry.

Also also both brothers see the sense of the other one being in Heaven, but neither one understands being their himself. Boys.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Morgana, I wish I could return the favor, but I've never read that one. If I run across it I'll mark it for you, though.

Theresa, the Sam dancing in the sparks is a wonderfully poignant scene, for sure. A cap from that scene is my desktop picture at the moment. It's a happier one than the stargazing cap I had before.

Because books.

Morgana, I know I've read that but I'm not sure if I bookmarked it. I can't remember who wrote it, either, but it was really good. I'll see if I can find it, but no guarantees.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Yeah, I have an incest squick, but Vampire Diaries sibling stuff doesn't phase me at all. Of course, I kinda ship Damon/anyone, so I may be biased.

Damon kinda ships Damon/anyone too. Bless his sexy self.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Damon is all about the Damon/anyone. Especially if it involves sharing with his little brother.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I ship Damon/Alaric hardest, but I'm not at all picky.

To be fair, flashbacks show that his brother did start it.

Because books.

I was going to start VD (heh) so I could see what the fuss is about, but Perkins says I can't till I watch White Collar.

She is So Bossy.
