Natter 62: The 62nd Natter
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I realized yesterday I have a Cordelia in 4 of my classes this year. I wonder if I can make it through the year with her without trying to kill her/yelling at her. I'll just have to take comfort in the though of what might happen to her in the future, right?
Sleep~ma, JenP.
Cute dresses, Kat. I envy those who can sew, though I know how to use a sewing machine and sewed extra fabric to a pair of jeans a month ago (manually), I really not on that level.
A class canceled this morning, which is good. I slept extra 20 minutes, cleaned my room, have time to do volunteering work and still study in the library before class. Also had french toast.
So glad the weekend's just around the corner. Well, that, and that I'm a mean, slim article summering machine while taking buses. I find it very zen, in the "getting into the weekend with a clear mind" way.
Also, trying very hard not to murder someone on another board. Wish me luck.
Skipping once again with an extra sigh, to post that, according to the Buffista Calendar, today is Hil R's birthday.
Happy birthday, Hil! With lots of wishes for a great day and a wonderful year!
Birthday Happies, Hil!!!
ION, someone's apartment on my floor is flooding. The hallway is flooding too and water is getting into other apartments, including mine. People are pounding on the door of the flooding apartment, trying to get the person to wake up. The police are here, and people are talking in the hallway. Water is pouring down the elevator shaft, so the elevators have stopped working.
I just want to go back to sleep.
Me too.
In the meanwhile, happy birthday Hil!
Kat, the dresses are absolutely adorable-- I'm envious of anyone who can sew, since I'm utterly hopeless. Doubly embarrassing, considering my mother's prowess.
QoS looks wicked interesting, but then again, I'm a sucker for Bond-- and the Aston Martin. Daniel Craig is definitely of the sexy, not traditionally good-looking variety. Beautiful bone structure and the shot of him coming over the ridge wearing a tux and toting the machine gun are definitely wicked sexy.
And finally, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Hil!
Adorable dresses, Kat. I made clothes for my nieces and nephews, but never for my own kids. Didn't have time once I had kids.
Not a Bond fan, but Craig is a sexy Bond.
Eeep, I hope the waterworks stop soon. Flooding is not fun.
Happy Birthday, Hil!
Happy birthday, Hil!!
Am I crazy, or is Hugh Laurie a brunet and Boris Becker a redhead?
I got out of bed a couple of minutes earlier than usual because the people on the radio were making me INSANE. It was a woman from Salon bitching about the image of Michelle Obama as primarily a mother. I mean, it is semi-crap, because of course she's had an important career, but she is putting it on hold right now. I wonder if/when we'll have a First Spouse who keeps their own job, and wonder if it will even be an issue until we have a female president. I just don't think it's tenable for the spouse to have their own life.
AND I think it was legitimate for people to be annoyed at how Hilary Clinton went into the White House -- it's one thing to make a case for the spouse to have expertise and a role, but I do think they played it wrong.
Anyway, I apparently woke up ranting.
I wonder if/when we'll have a First Spouse who keeps their own job, and wonder if it will even be an issue until we have a female president. I just don't think it's tenable for the spouse to have their own life.
I think security issues would make it very difficult for a First Spouse to remain in and be effective at certain jobs, regardless of said spouse's gender. Can you imagine the disruption to, say, a high school if the FS wanted to continue teaching AP History?
On the other hand, I think if the FS were (for example) a top pediatric neurosurgeon, it would be a public relations disaster for that person to put his/her job aside.
