Last night we hung out with an old friend who has been off in China and Mongolia for a month Went to dinner at Swingers Diner (french toast for dinner, yum) and got to hear cool stuff about Ulan Bator. Then we all went to see Cadillac Records, which had great performances in a mediocre movie. DH and I got home earlyish, did, well, something private which married people do, then got up and watched That's Entertainment and the ball drop.
Today we have gone to Lowe's and Sears for house stuff. We also stopped off at CVS and had a cheap animal cracker taste-off. We bought three kinds and here are our observations
CVS Brand: a bit puffy-looking. Burnt taste and crumbly = Fail
Modern brand Animalitos: finer crumb, floury taste = only in a dire cracker emergency
Gamesa Animalitos: Totally puffy, more like balloons than animals. Deliciousl, with a nice hint of lemon = FTW
I went to bed early. But I totally made up for it and got into the New Years spirit by sleeping late.
A one-day holiday on Thursday just seems wrong, what with the having to go to work for one day on Friday.
DH can never to go drinking with Rachel Maddow. You know that episode of HIMYM where they go to the gay bar and Marshall is all happy that he can finally order the foofy girly drink he really wants all the time? Yeah, there's a reason I identify with this show.
My usual drink orders are either run and coke or tequila and orange. I have no idea where this fits on the cocktail snob scale.

Right? It was too bad. And then I didn't realize that the main guy in Stomp the Yard (which I watched over Christmas with my parents, thinking of meara) was Little Walter!
I'm a rum and coke person, but I'm a snob about my rum. Other than that, I loves me my mojitos and loved 'em before they became trendy, so there.
Me, last night. [link] Hate how my hair looks, trying to decide what to do about it at the next hair appt. I know I'm going to go lighter but the haircut remains a mystery.
I think, sadly, that I also have to give up the bronze-y eyeshadows now that I'm not perpetually tan. I'll have to see after I lighten my hair though.

Me too. I usually order a "Jack and Coke." That's snobby, right?
Much as I love Maddow, I'm not trading in my Roses lime for lime and powdered sugar in my vodka gimlet. Life's too short to shake that one into submission.
Let's face it, there are probably worse things in life than Rachel Maddow dominating your face with cocktails.
I think I've found a useful arbiter in the never-ending San Francisco burrito debate. Burritoeater has rated more than 637 burritos just in the Bay Area.
A typical review (note importance of "burstage abatement"):
Swish: sauciness (10); spiciness (10); beans (9); burstage abatement (9); rice (8); cheese (8); vegetables (8); temperature (8)
Shrug: size (7); tortilla (7); meat (7); ingredient mix (6)
Clang: no elements clanged
Intangibility bonus: 2 (of 2)
Anything rated over 7 is deemed respectable.

Hec, you could start a site and call it Sandwich Eater.
