This is what our dinner finally ended up being:
Roasted asparagus
Mashed cauliflower with garlic and cream (or for me with bleu cheese and brie)
Cabernet Pot Roast with whole peppercorns
Brioche with brie, saga bleu or pub cheese
Dessert was tiramisu, 3 chocolate mousse or mango mousse cake.

I liked Hidalgo! And IIRC, it won't make you end up crying in your sparkling wine, although there is violence, and Hidalgo gets injured at one point.

My SIL, after watching me deal with the boys for most of the week, asked me in a quiet bonding moment "SO WHY THE FUCK AREN'T YOU A MOM LIKE ME, DAMNIT?" It was funny and flattering.
