Punishingly Intricate

I have been thinking about hairdressing school.

My best friend in SF had most of a grad degree in English lit and had been working in various office jobs for years. She just really wasn't suited for office work and these jobs made her really unhappy. So she went to beauty school when she was in her mid-30s and has been working as an aesthetician since then and now is in nursing school. This kind of hands-on work with people work makes so much more sense for her.

My mother always felt that it was a fundamental flaw of the US educational system, that people weren't encouraged to go to trade schools.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I clearly need to start playing lotto again. I don't even do that. A friend suggested I might find a husband if I handed out our leftover holiday cookies on the subway each day.

Ann, that's a ferret.

A friend suggested I might find a husband if I handed out our leftover holiday cookies on the subway each day.

You might. The question is, whose husband? And would you want him?

“Not dead yet!”

I don't look that good Barb.

I was thinking potential apprenticing job! What? I'm nothing if not encouraging.

The Edible Bride

What, are the wedding guests supposed to eat off of her? Or is he saving it for himself?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

What, are the wedding guests supposed to eat off of her? Or is he saving it for himself?

I hope he wasn't saving it for himself, because then he'd probably spend his whole wedding night in the bathroom.

But the image of guests eating off her dress is disturbing as well.

Coding and Sleeping

My mother always felt that it was a fundamental flaw of the US educational system, that people weren't encouraged to go to trade schools.

At my high school you could take trade school classes in place of school classes for a half day. They promoted trade school pretty well, but that may have just been a local thing. On a national level, I think it is a bit of a forgotten option though.

OTOH, is there a shortage of people for jobs that trade schools train for?

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

BiL (who just left after a nice visit here) went back to school in his late 20s to become a chef. He loves it and can find a job ANYWHERE. You do have to stand for endless hours, though.

After his horrible marriage broke up, he moved out here from Connecticut to stay with SiL up in San Luis Obispo. He got a fantastic chef job in three days. He works at a college, and can take any classes for free.
