Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Volunteer fire departments back one another up. When one is occupied there is another designated as on call.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I remember the siren at the fire station that would go off and alert any volunteers within earshot to come on in (if they didn't, they'd get a phone call as follow-up). It reached pretty far out into the farmland, which was where most of the volunteers were working.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

That's too bad, Barb. Do you have enough ingrediants to do it again?

I'm the last one here in my department. 10 more minutes, then I can clock out with my 3.5 hours.

"We have trust issues." Mylar

Kwanzaa is really such a sad little holiday. I think black folks should feel compelled to do better in the age of Obama. Having presents involved would go a long way to solving the problem. Or candy.

I believe I may be the only person in my office. Two other folks were here, but I just saw one sneak out with her coat on and I didn't see the other one at her desk when I went to get coffee.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I am the only person in my building. (Upstairs tenants are all out too.) And now FedEx tells me they're gonna deliver my theremin kit today (after telling me it would be delivered 12/29 for the last half a week). So I am waiting for it to show up before I leave for lunch and/or home.
